Speed Queen, 12th and Walnut, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Outside dinner, mixed sauce, priceless.
It is seriously worth the drive from anywhere in North America.

Definitely Memphis. I've never been there.

Don't believe the hype. Go to Milwaukee now. It is the new center of BBQ.

I'm sure the south has it hands down, but if you happen to ever find yourself in downtown Montreal make an effort to get to the BAR-B-BARN BBQ on rue Guy just off St. Catherines street and you will not be disappointed. The BEST ribs north of the border by far.

I once had a buddy who was flying home to Vancouver that afternoon pick me up a whole Hog and bring it back with him as payment for collecting him from the Airport.

man I'm gettin hungry just thinking about them.

Finally a topic in which I'm an expert! No. St. Louis BBQ is awful with the exception of Super Smokers, which is o.k.

Being from Texas I'm biased toward Texas BBQ, which generally means brisket, not pork. Except for ribs, in which case it's pork all the way. And of course TX sauce tends to be a thinner more vinagery sauce rather than that ketchup-like stuff that they stand chicken legs up in in the ads. Those ads kill me, "thicker is better". That's just stupid.

Salt Lick is very good. Somewhat better than Green Mesquite in Austin, but near as good as Dozier's in Fulschear. The best of course was my Ol' Pappy's place, Firpo's, in Richmond before he retired.

Tom Jenkins BBQ on Federal Hwy & Davie Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. Lines are 20 minutes + long everyday from 11am to 2pm. It's family owned and everyone who works there is grumpy as hell, it's kind of like the soup nazi from Seinfeld but nobody cares because the food is so damn good.

Dinosaur barbeque in Syracuse seems to be the "famous" place in NY and well liked around here.

Of course it could be one of those things where everyone up here doesn't know any better. Kind of like southerner's thinking Aunt Jemima is good Maple Syrup.

Welcome to the area. Not that i want many 2+2ers in my game but we have a pretty steady home game you would be welcome to attend if interested. We play mostly 10 man NL tourneys when I host ranging from $20 buyins to $300 buyins. If your interested in getting to know some local games you can drop me a PM. We have a $205 buying NL tourney on the 20th of November ($5 goes to paying a dealer - I hate to deal) and we are still short a few players. It's a safe, clean game and you will meet alot of very good guys.

[/ QUOTE ]I know it's a chain...now. But the original place is still pretty good. Never heard of Mike Duffy's. Where were you before I moved? Maybe next time I'm in town there I'll try it. There used to be a good place on Manchester too (across from Kriegers) before Super Smokers bought them out.

FYI, there was an extensive BBQ discussion here relatively recently. Pretty good thread if you care to search for it.

I'm a huge Salt Lick fan. I'm gonna have to find my way to the other places jakethebake listed, since it sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

For anyone who likes brisket, I highly recommend ordering from www.saltlickbbq.com (http://www.saltlickbbq.com) . They also make great ribs. But the brisket, that's incredible.

It isn't close, and no it is not the Salt Lick.

Although the Salt Lick is pretty good, no place I've been to compares to Kreuz Market, Lockhart Texas. They serve their meat as God intended BBQ to be served, without sauce. As the owner has stated, BBQ sauce is used to cover up the taste of mediocre cooked meat. Give it a try.

I'm going to have to go with the salt lick as well. The $9.95 beef ribs on Sundays was the best meat I've had in my life, and I'm from a country of 11 sheep, and 5 cows for every person...

I love the Salt Lick! I live in Wimberley about 15 minutes from the place. I have to say though that Kreuz has better brisket but that's it! Salt Lick has far better ribs and sausage than Kreuz. Next time you get into the Salt Lick, ask your server for Lauren's sauce. It's their regular stuff but with some Habanero mixed in...not too hot but has a very nice kick. Salt Lick gets my vote for best all around (unless I happen to have the smoker going that day /images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Kreuz has some of the best brisket on earth. Another place in Lockheart called Chislom Trail is very good and WAY under rated.

As far as other cities go, I've been to most of them and outside of Texas, I have to go with Memphis. The ribs at Rendevous and Corkey's are to die for! Way better than anything I've ever had in Texas.

In Kansas City, It's The Smoke Stack and Jack's Stack (Owned by fueding brothers or some sutch) Very similar tastes and both awesome! KC Masterpiece was neat but overpriced and yuppie que if there ever was any...

Speaking of yuppie que stay away from The County Line in Austin....total crap and high prices is all you'll find there....well...and yuppies.

I'm hungery!

I really want to write something saying how real BBQ has vinegar and is from North Carolina, just to PO Diablo, but even I can't say that with a straight face.

BBQ is such a religion in NC (where I'm from) that I managed to get in an argument about it with someone on here and I have been a vegetarian for 10 years.

I believe this statement, I've tried BBQ all over and for pork I can't think of any other better than the vinegar based style in Eastern NC.

B's in Greenville, NC is the best I've ever had.

I'm gonna go find the other thread and see what I can find in there.

Yea. That place is pretty good too. I have to disagree about sauce, but I don't think it should be dumped on to completely cover up the meat. I never went there much because it smells funny down by Luling & Lockhart. I dunno if there's some kind of plant there or what, but it's hard to enjoy BBQ in that stench.

I've read a few books, host a monthly low buy in tourney, and played online for about a year, but after finding 2+2 a couple weeks ago, I realize that I don't know anything about poker.

But, dammit I know barbeque. I may not have accomplished anything in the poker world in the last year, but I am at my all time high weight, thanks in large part to by far the best BBQ in KC therefore the world--Oklahoma Joe's at 47th and Mission in Kansas City Kansas. Pulled pork on toast with fries--it's freaking ridiculous. It's inside a gas station with a liquor store next door.

Other KC spots worth hitting...
Fiorella's Jack Stack--It's the upscale quality BBQ in town, 3 locations. (RE: The feuding brothers referenced by Mars 357 above...Smokestack is a dump. They got the name, but Jack has the grub.)

LC's--One location near the Truman Sports Complex and one in Lenexa.

Arthur Bryant's--Especially if you're into lard.

Hayward's--my favorite sauce.

Other options that are popular, but I don't frequent are Gates, K&M in Spring Hill, Rosedale and Wyandot. I agree with JaketheBake KC Masterpiece is awful.

Great time to take a poker vacation to KC (what am I the chamber of commerce?). 3 of the 4 local casinos just opened card rooms and you can eat yourself silly when you're done.

Over.

B's is the junk just get there early when they run out its closing time.

Parkers is good too, I really liked the corn sticks and brunswick stew as well.

Another tip for country cooking: Venter's(I hear it is reopened downtown somewhere, it used to be in this crazy double wide trailer just laid on the ground near Tar River.) I heard its not the same as when I was in school there, but the friggin cheese biscuits on Friday's, if the are the same its worth the stop in.

You do realize that most of the people who pumped up SaltLick are at least a few thousand miles away right? Though I do plan on stopping in while I'm in town for the Holidays, I'm not sure how we could import a New Zealander, and Ulyssys seems like a grumpy BBQ eater to me.
