look on ebay or something for a year subscription. i got a year of xbl, and a headset for 30 bucks. the prices might be higher now with halo 2 and tons of people getting on xbl, but its worth a look

Its like warcraft in that you have a number assigned that gets higher the more you play. I guess its possible to have people quitting on you when you are 1-5 or something, but I doubt its a problem when you get higher. The games are so fun, its like halo 1 crossed with counterstrike..i guess.

yes, the friends feature is very good. you can play through the campaign with a friend on xbl if you want, or form "partys" and take on other people in regular multi. they also have clans of up to 100 people, and tons of "clan wars" and [censored]. seriously its pretty cool.

Yeah definitely get a headset. 30 bucks for the communicator with headset. As an FYI, any cell phone headset with the 1/8in plug should work if you don't like the headset...but you need the communicator.
