Here is a hand I played, I was wondering if there was a better way to play it. It was a few week ago, so it is from memory:

BB is $.50, I have $50 in my stack, I have only played a few hands so have no reads I can remember

I am UTG with A/images/graemlins/diamond.gifK/images/graemlins/diamond.gif and raise to total $1.75 (pot bet) UTG+1 calls and all other fold. UTG+1 has about $40.

flop: 10/images/graemlins/diamond.gif 6/images/graemlins/diamond.gif 3/images/graemlins/club.gif

I check, he bets about $5 from memory, I move in.

Did I make a mistake? Is there a better play?

Results in white:

He called. I failed to improve and he took the pot with pocket kings.

well, since he didn't reraise preflop, I don't really think of AA or KK.

you are favorite over all other pocket pairs and I think checkraising all in is the right move here.

With those short stacks, I'd probably do the same, but I wouldn't make a move like that with deep stacks (200BB+).

I like it. You are just a slight dog to kings, and a slight favorite over other PP. AA and trips you are behind, but those arent terribly likely from the betting here. By pushing you eliminate the importance of position and generate some potential for a fold.

I think one change I would make is bet a bit more preflop.

How many BB's would you raise UTG preflop with A/images/graemlins/diamond.gifK/images/graemlins/diamond.gif ?

I typically do 4xBB at party size stacks (50xBB stacks)

here you have 100xBB stacks, I like to bump it up to at least 6xBB.

I just feel that when I sit with 100xBB stack, its almost no brainer for guys with medium pocket pair and even suited connectors to call a 4xBB stack preflop.

is it possible he was playing at a pot-limit table and didnt realize it?

Wow, I'm not saying you're wrong, but I've never heard anyone recommend a 6xBB open raise with 100 BB's in your stack. Then again I've only heard a few recomendations in the 3-5 BB's range, I'll give this some more thought...

Nope it was NL, but I'm one of those players who is magically attracted to the pot limit button. It just always seems to be a good bet preflop.

well, I'm not saying 3-5BB raise is wrong. and under most circumstances it is the correct play.

A lot of players go by the 4xBB +1 BB per limper.

Since you were UTG, your default raise would I guess be 4xBB.

The reason I sometimes like to raise aggresively preflop is that I sometimes want to make it unattractive to players who employ 5/10 rule.

Good thinking. I've never looked at this situation from the perspective of a person holding suited connectors with 100 BB's in his stack to match mine. Thanks for the new perspective.

Where are you people getting your information??? If he is up against KK he is a HUGE underdog and if he up against a PP he is still behind.

hes 55% favorite over pp.

45% dog to KK

35% dog to AA.
