If you were stuck in a room with Nesticle for the rest of your life, which rom would you download. You only get one.

Tetris --- I used to get so close to 250 lines that, with a few months of training, I think I could do it.

My initial reaction was FF1 because it was the first game I played through when I got an emulator.

But it would be Megaman 2, upon further reflection.

this was actually my very close second

i prefer these types of games over any other (rpg). final fantasy is just a little more my style also the games is much more complex and i felt that it would take longer for me to explore everything again in ff.

zelda is a great game and then the second was made and it [censored] the bed.

All the games everybody mentioned are definitely great for 1 player. But if you are talking multi-player... Tecmo Superbowl definitely takes the cake. Even just last summer my friends and I spent hours on a Tecmo tournament. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

The answer is Contra, the originator of the Cheat Code, the one we all know by heart, and wish would work on every game.

Contra is sweet, but its about staying power. That game can be beaten in like 2 hours, while Zelda takes a week or so.

Tecmo Superbowl, no other even comes close.

Isn't there a select between the A and start, or maybe thats just for two players.

My bad..forgot the select.

You're right about the staying power...actually, Zelda was like the second game I ever got for NES back in the day...so that would still be a good one.

And Tecmo Super Bowl could go on for days if I had friends around....Bo was unstoppable in that game! The old-school value of that game is off the charts.

One more I forgot...

Double Dragon 2. Between being a game where you can beat the hell out of your partner for fun (and take their lives), and a game that's actually pretty friggin' tough to beat, this would be another really good one.

I think its easily Zelda, but if you want to do honerable mentions, just for fun, how about Marble Madness, Duckhunt, and all the Marios. I had Mega Man 3, but could never beat it.

Marble Madness?!
Yeah, maybe if I wanted to throw my computer against the wall after an hour and a half. That was the most frustrating game ever. I'm going with Legend of Zelda, Super Mario 3, or maybe Castlevania. Double Dribble gets an honorable mention.

"I feel asleep!!?" - Metal Gear

Ninja Gaiden 2 was one of the best games ever, but the crown goes to Mega Man 2. If you want to talk about the hardest game on earth, look no further than Legacy of the Wizard. On a side note, you can fit about 70 NES ROMs on a Gameboy Advance cartridge and have the actual NES games with you wherever you go. Not to mention, any of the actual GBA titles.

oh yeah the arcade is superior, you [censored] spin that wheel all over the place and turbo, fun times. Many times I would go to the arcade and spend $5 on that game, which was a lot when you were 10!

astroglide

ALL the Marios? 2 sucked...sucks actually. I have it on an emulator and I think it's awful. SMB3 is my favorite and SMB1 is pretty good. What about BattleToads? I used to rent that one from Blockbuster all the time.

bubble bobble was a really fun game.

i think there are a lot of good games than have gone unmentioned including but not limited to:

trog

dig dug 2 (cool concept)

adventure island 1 (and 2 i suppose)

super mario 3

Metriod

Skulls and Crossbones (or something like that, it was a multiplayer pirate game)

ninja turtles 1 (not that great... but it was the turtles)

and that one video game where you were a little kid who ran down a tunnel to save his frog and found this futuristic tank and went to this alternate universe and killed stuff... that was a good one. oh i remember now... it was masterblaster or blastermaster, something like that.

hardest game:
The barbie video game (it was my sisters) its one of the few games i never beat... i always got to this level with a giant jukebox and i didn't know what to do...

Final Fantasy 1

It offered a plethora of choices (ever try solving it with 4 ninjas?) and was uber flexible (lots of magic choices, etc).

Zelda was fun, but you could beat it in less than an hour and after two or three times through, it was old hat.

Did you guys ever venture into the underworld and challenge the nine levels all over again? You can only challenge the back nine once you beat the game on the first run thru? Level 9 the second time was ridiculous. I think I bombed every square inch of the map just to uncover the entrance.

I would probably pick something like Tetris that can never really be "solved" if I had to play it for eternity, but it's not my favorite game.

My favorites were:

RBI Baseball... I wish they'd update this to have all the "season" and memory capabilities of today's baseball games, but with the same graphics, gameplay and sound as the original RBI. I'd buy a game cube just for that.
MT Punch Out
Metroid
Mega Man series
Super Mario 2 (weird game, but I have a soft spot for it)
Pro Wrestling
Ikari Warriors
Double Dragon
Baseball Stars
