I'll get right to the point: This past Friday, I rolled for 20 minutes and hit my points five times during my first time ever!

I'm a complete newbie and I've always wanted to learn how to play craps. A bunch of us headed down to Foxwoods and I took $100 to the $5 and rolled for an hour. The dealers were fantastic and very helpful. I was getting the hang of things and my turn came up and I made a $ TON $ of money for the other people, but just a little bit for me, though.

I know it's a fluke and the swings are ridiculous, but I just thought I'd share.

There's nothing like the thrill of hitting point after point. Craps is a fun, social game and the upswings can be an incredible rush but as you've pointed out, the variance combined with significant house edge is a killer.

It's cool that you had a good time your first time out and you've probably heard this before but it bears repeating. Study the games and know the edge against you before getting in deep with any casino game. With wild swings in craps, it can sometimes be hard to notice the steady draining of cash from your wallet and we all have selective memory; It's likely you'll remember your first wild ride and assume you're still playing with the "house's money" long after you've begun depleting your "own" roll. I've heard it said before "there's a reason you won't find any professional craps players".

FWIW - I love craps and BJ but my real negative EV guily pleasure is roulette. The house edge is horrible, close to 5 times harsher than craps, but enjoyed properly and in great moderation its just good, honest fun.

Thanks for sharing!

Actually, if you avoid the proposition bets and only bet the pass line and take full odds on your points, it has the lowest house edge of any table game, even lower than blackjack with basic strategy.

There are no professionals in any negative-EV games.

If you do not wish to study the intricacies of blackjack, craps is the best game in the casino for the player. The house edge on betting the line and taking odds is less than 1%. Just stay away from all the sucker bets and whoop it up! All those people making a ton of money off your roll will give it right back if not careful.

When you take the free odds on a point it is the best bet in any casino anywhere period. However, even making this bet long enough will bankrupt you.

Never play craps ever again. Remember her like somw woman you screwed and have fond memories of but will never see again.

I'm not a big fan of the idea "Never play <insert casino game here> ever again."

Yes, they're -EV. Never go see a movie ever again. Never go to a sporting event ever again. Never go to the theater or a concert ever again. All of these things are -EV if the only expectation you're looking at is monetary. Paying for your entertainment in a casino is no different than any of the above, as long as you're able to keep it in moderation.

Thanks for the story deuce... welcome to the forum.

Really? My wife and I see an average of 3.5 movies per week, at 8.50$ a ticket, thats $60 a week, or over $3,000 a year, we've been together for 7 years so far, and the bitch makes me buy her popcorn too.
