Hello,
I'm new to hold'em but I love the game and have been intensely studying the Small Stakes Hold'Em book by Miller, Sklansky, and Malmuth featured on this website. So far I'm up around $200 after about 5 outings playing 2-4 at the local card club and a casino in Vegas(i've had some great nights, average nights, and losing nights).
A major difference I noticed is that the local card club charges $3 every 1/2 hour to play 2-4, while at the Casino I visited there's no time charge but they rake the pot. Frankly, I like the latter a lot more because I'm only paying money if I win, and I don't feel pressure to win pots with mediocre hands. Is the $6/hour time fee reasonable for 2-4? Do I have to adjust my standards according to how the card club or casino makes its money? As a resident of the bay area in california, there are numerous gambling options that aren't too far away and so I wonder if I should put in the time and mileage to play somewhere without a time fee.
