I started out playing on Pacific Poker several months ago. I chose Pacific because everyone told it was a good beginners site. Now I play on Paradise, and Party.

I was wondering what is considered a decent win rate, hourly I guess. sometimes after a couple of hourse I've really only made fifteen bucks.

So with only about 100 dollars in my account, at a 1/2 table
what would be considered good? with the expected big hands and really bad beats that will happen in two hours.

thnx

1) Don't worry about how much you win or lose right now- just learn and get better.

2) You don't have a big enough bankroll for 1/2. You should have around 300BB (300x$2=$600) for whatever limit you're at- in general. I would recommend playing only 1 table of 50 cent, especially if starting out.

3) paradise is one of the tougher sites out there. Play at party.

4) Get some poker books

Ah . . . not losing your bankroll would be considered "good" if you are this far underfunded. Seriously, bankroll is what will get you through the inevitable down swings. If losing it isn't a big deal (because you have lot's to re-deposit with) then don't worry about it, but if it would be a big deal if you lost it, then you should get your ass back down to the MICRO MICRO levels. Your roll is even sufficient for .25/.50 if you use the minimum suggested bankroll stat of 300 big bets.

Oh and a decent "earn" rate (IMO) would be 2-3 BB/100 hands per table played.

my 2 cents

It's been mentioned in a couple replies, but it's important enough to repeat. You're bankroll isn't sufficient enough to play 1/2, unless you're willing to reload. Here are some suggestions.

1) search for Homer's post on Building a Bankroll for newbies. He shows you how to build a starting bankroll of $100 and grow it to several hundred bucks by bonus whoring (assuming you're at least a break even player).

2) read books. SSH (Small Stakes Hold'em) is highly recommended. I know not everyone agrees with this, but Internet Texas Hold'em (Matthew Hilger) is a good book as well. There are many others, such as Theory of Poker, Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players, etc.

3) play at a "better" micro limits site than Paradise (i.e. read, a site with more fish). Honestly, I can't help too much here, as I was fortunate enough to be able to start at 0.50/1.00, which I believe is the lowest limit at Party. I seem to recall reading a number of posts that Pacific is good for the micro limits. There are many downsides to Pacific, some of which will mean more to you later as you grow the bankroll. No notes, can only play 1 table at a time, etc.

4) invest in pokertraker. It won't be very helpful until you get a sample size that's sufficient enough, but start building the sample size. It should help you identify leaks in your game.

With regards to winrate, most people here discuss it in terms of BB(that's Big Bets, not Big Blinds)/100 hands. Makes for an easier comparison, as the # of hands you get dealt at a B&M vs. most online sites is very different. I believe someone already noted 2-3BB/HH (hundred hands) is considered good.

I was on Pacific for a while, I made a couple of hundred bucks there, over a long long period of time (probably pathetic compared to how long it might take you guys to make 200 bucks) but I appreciated the fact that I made money and didn't loose it

My brother has been playing in casino's for years, he says I have a knack for poker. But he wants me to stay at micro limits for a while, (He also told me to go to 2+2, because he doesnt play On-line poker much, and said advice here would be good.)

Anyway, I'm still doing all-right, and I've moved down from the 1/2 tables like you guys said.
I don't really want to go back to Pacific, becuase people there seemed to call absolutely anything, they'd call Q-7 just because the damn thing was suited. I figured that was a good thing, but it made it impossible to bluff, and when 9 people call crap hands, someones usually going to get lucky.
On Paradise people seem to play better than Pacific, which in turn, makes me feel like I'll improve more with difficult experience, and they take my bets more seriously, and don't call bottom pair, and then get a miracle river card.
But If you guys really think I'll do better on Pacific I guess I should go back....
But I don't want to make money right now, I want to improve play, originally I was just curious what a good win rate/per hour was considered.

Again, thanks guys, especially the reference to Homers post Stupendous_Man.

And I apolgize in advance for any other newbie questions I post up in the future...

Thnx

MycroftX - I am also a newbie. I just found this site a few days ago. I posted a question and was overwelled by the good and kind responses. As long as you post any question you have here in the beginners section, don't be embarrased to ask anything you feel you need to know. You will be given good answers.
In the unlikely event someone does come back with a rude response then that person is the idiot, not you.
