View Full Version : Playing from the blinds - what odds do you require to call with...

The amount of money we win and lose in the blinds (or more accurately, the degree to which we're able to minimize our losses in the blinds) goes a long way towards whether we win or lose in the long run. This has me thinking more about some marginal situations in full ring games that come up quite often... what kind of odds are necessary to play certain hands from the blinds.

I'd be interested in seeing what you people think about the following hands:

A2s
A9o
87s
98s
JTo
QTo
KTo
ATo
KJo
33

I put 33 in there, even though I take it most people look for between 5 and 7 to 1 (7.x:1 being the probability of making a set) for smaller pocket pairs. Thing is, 22 and 33 will lose when they make a set much more often than 66 and up, so I usually look for something more in the range of 8:1 for these smapller pairs.

For me, my loosely defined mental "rules" are as follows (assume you're not defending against a steal heads-up):
A2s: 5.5:1
A9o: 10:1+
87s: 6:1
98s: 5.5:1
JTo: 7.5:1
QTo: 6.5:1
KTo: 6:1
ATo: 6:1
KJo: 6:1
33: 8:1

Am I too tight with the suited cards, and too loose unsuited?
