Live game $1/2 blinds, $200 max buy

3 limps to me and I make it $12 w/ A /images/graemlins/club.gifA /images/graemlins/diamond.gif. LP caller, 2 limpers call. Approx $50 pot.

Flop: 7 /images/graemlins/spade.gif7 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif Checked to me, I bet $40, folded back to EP who calls. Aprrox $130 pot

Turn: Q /images/graemlins/club.gif EP checks w/ about $90 left, I have him covered.

Now normally I would have moved in right here but I attended the WCCP seminar earlier in the day and one of Mike Caro's pieces of advice was that you should never move all in to protect your hand if you can sell it for a lesser price. So I go ahead and bet $60 knowing that if this player is on a draw he still isnt getting the proper odds to chase, and that if he has a one pair hand he will be more likely to call a $60 bet than an all in bet.

Is this the correct line of thinking? Does Caro's advice apply here? Thanks in advance.

IMO, the bet size in this instance really doesnt matter. if he moves in for the last 30 in his stack after your 60 dollar bet, you're certainly not gonna fold, he's not gonna call a 60 dollar bet anymore than a 90 dollar bet, so the bets are essentially equal.

BTW, where is there a $200 1/2NL game in vegas? i'll be there for a friend's bday and would like to check such a structure out...

I may be a little off on one or two of the min/maxs here but here is a list of all of the NL games in Vegas...

On the Strip...
Ballys: 1-2 blinds 100/200 min/max buy
Aladdin: 1-2 100min/100max
Luxor: 1-1-2 50min/50max but you can buy another 50 as soon as you are below 50
Excalibur: 1-2 unsure on min/max
Mandalay Bay: 2-4 unsure on min max
Mirage: 2-5 100min/500max
Bellagio: 2-5 200min/200max + 10-20min/no max
Flamingo: 2-5 100min/200max

Downtown (Fremont St.)...
Binnions: 1-2 blinds 100min/no max
Golden Nugget: 1-2 100min/no max
Plaza: 1-2 40min/200max

Then there is the Palms game which is 2-5 blinds 100min/300max.

Most of the 1-2 blinds games on the strip dont get going until late afternoon during the week. Im not too sure about the games downtown. Mirage, Bellagio, and Palms almost always have at least one going.

The 1/2 at Excalibur is $100 min/max and the 2/4 at Mandalay Bay is $200 min/max.

for their 2-5 games, palms is 500 cap and mirage is 300 cap, at least that's what they were 2 months ago.

actually, if you assume the best possible draw against you--which is JT diamonds--then your bet of $60 makes it a +EV call for him. in other words, you should push.

I don't see many hands he could have that he will call for 60 but not 90. However, there are plenty of hands that he will call for 60 and then fold the river if he misses - T8, JT, or diamonds...

Hey Jesse

yeah I like this line you took. First of all if he is on a draw he might not want to risk all of his chips to chase it, and if he has a hand he will most likely end up giving you all of his chips. Say he made his one pair with a Q or a 9, he will call your 60 on the turn, and then on the river he will give you his last 30 because the pot has gotten so big.

Plus in a response to mikech's post, Jesse is right about the mirage being a 500 max, they just changed it last month.

JT /images/graemlins/diamond.gif is actually +EV for the push as well.

But, yes, push the turn.
