One card slow roll

All right, I live in a one casino town, and I have never played live anywhere else, so my knowledge of etiquette is sometimes shaky. Can anyone tell me if this is common elsewhere, and if players or casinos try to discourage it?

Increasingly at my casino, players are putting the last bet in, are told to roll their hands, then turn over the card that makes their hand (a ten that makes a straight, a 4 that makes trips). They don't turn over their second card unless someone asks or the dealer instructs them too. This becomes a true slow roll, of course, when they roll the card to make trips, their opponent rolls a hand with the same card, and they roll the second, a better kicker giving them the winning hand.

If I'm in the hand, I don't muck my hand, even if the one card beats me, until I see both cards. If I'm not in the hand, I always ask to see both. Some players get annoyed, but the dealer always tells them to show both.

I'm often asked why I need to see it, when I know the one card makes him the winner. I don't want to say it's because I am always looking for more information on my opponents' betting habits, so I usually just say that they plaed two cards, so they show two cards, and it's a simple courtesy to their opponents.

Am I the bad guy here? Is it typical to just put up with this kind of cowboy bull?

The management of that room needs to wake up and realize that in holdem, it is required that players turn up both cards in order to be awarded any pot.

No you're not the bad guy, at the casino I play at (Riverrock casino) in Richmond BC (Canada), there is a plaqe on the wall that outlines poker etiquette. It says something to the effect that both cards must be exposed immediately upon showdown (in the order of who initiate the action). Of course, there are still these slow rollers and I always tell the dealer to remind them of the house rules.

And the answer to the question "why you need to see the other card) is obvious, you want to get an idea what the guy's starting requirements are.

you have every right to see both cards. at most casinos you need two LIVE cards to win a pot. you should argue that if that player doesnt want to show 2 live cards to win the pot, then the dealer can just push the pot in your direction.

You MUST show both cards to have a hand, period. Otherwise you have NO hand. It takes two cards to make a hand, and a one card hand is not a legitimate one, it's nothing. This is why the dealers are always insisting on seeing both cards.

If this kind of bull is increasingly common at your cardroom, then JERKS are increasingly common at your cardroom. The management should not tolerate this kind of behavior if it occurs on a regular basis.

And what's even worse is when both players turn over the same TP card, and then stare at each other rather confusingly, like deer caught in the headlights. Usually after three or four seconds of this I blurt out "Turn over the other freaking cards already!"

And I thought that only Foxwoods had players this stupid.

This crap happens all the time at canterbury, the one good thing about it is that usually the caller isnt smart enough to muck his hand if he loses so you get to see both players hands.

I'm not a person that slowrolls, but 1 guy at FW's was doing this all the time the other day and was really getting under my skin. In 1 hand against me, he did it and pushed his cards towards the dealer, 1 card up. I told the dealer that he mucked his hand and to push the pot to me. After a "vigorous" discussion, he grabbed his cards, turned the other one up. After asking the dealer what he had, I then turned the top pair card, then the better kicker. That cured him.

I've also seen this at foxwoods, without anyone saying anything.

Ace on the board, someone will flash an ace, not show kicker unless somone else showed Ace. If they show two pair the Ace would get mucked unless he had something relevasnt to reveal....
