this seemed the quintessential example of "I'll only be called if I'm beat"

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with K/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, K/images/graemlins/heart.gif.
UTG calls, <font color="CC3333">Hero raises</font>, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 folds, CO calls, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls, UTG calls.

Flop: (12.50 SB) 4/images/graemlins/club.gif, 5/images/graemlins/spade.gif, K/images/graemlins/club.gif <font color="blue">(6 players)</font>
<font color="CC3333">BB bets</font>, UTG folds, <font color="CC3333">Hero raises</font>, MP2 calls, CO calls, Button folds, BB calls.

Turn: (10.25 BB) J/images/graemlins/club.gif <font color="blue">(4 players)</font>
BB checks, <font color="CC3333">Hero bets</font>, MP2 calls, CO calls, BB calls.

River: (14.25 BB) Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif <font color="blue">(4 players)</font>

Not true at all. The real problem is you probably are beat.

This is a classic example of where you should play for overcalls. Except I wouldn't raise one pair anyway in this situation.

BB appears to have KQ. If the hero can get 2 overcalls then I think calling is the play. So if the other players are weak I would call, but if they will laydown decent hands I would raise.

I think I stayed up too late /images/graemlins/blush.gif.

Actually playing for overcalls isn't too bad anyway in case BB has AT. But I would raise the river.

I think you have BB beat (he probably made two pair on river) and should probably raised the river.

What I don't know is what kind of players the 2 other opponents are. I've seen passive players call all way to showdown with lowhigh flushes afraid for higher flushes or whathever they are afraid of.
