For me, it has to be James Ellroy (non poker). He wrote "LA Confidential" "American Tabloid" etc. His books can be hard to get into, but once they get started, they are top shelf.

Screech is dead.

You must buy 'A Separate reality' and then read 'Journey to Ixtlan.'

Powerfull stuff. Who else do you read?

Ed Miller. He's the only author who's won me mad cash at the craps table. His book was OK, too.

I also enjoy reading Ellroy. Have you ever been to one of his book signings? He's very entertaining.

Mr. Miller is certainly an above average writer in the poker book genera though he does dabble in buffoonery. This is a plus or minus depending on your perspective. Of course, he was restricted and restrained by forces and shadows of unknown portent. If left to his own devices he, perhaps, could produce a book that would be worth reading while sipping cognac in front of a cozy fire. But I doubt it. He appears to be more of a beer man; again, a plus or minus depending on personal perspective.

If he would only hire Zeno to edit his books - his style would exhibit more verve, the tone be more loose fitting and comfortable, and the overall content full of so much sharp wit and saucy humor that he would make the best seller lists in a trice.

My fee: a nominal $80/hr plus a percentage of the rake.

PS. My favorite author is Mark Twain.

I have really enjoyed all of Kurt Vonnegut's stuff.

Also, everything Tommy writes makes me smile.

Cognac is fine. Fire isn't.

I really enjoy Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum.

The Bourne Identity is a great book, makes the movie even better to watch.

A good friend once described reading Kurt Vonnegut's stories as like eating chocolate. I felt it was an apt simile.

Tom Clancy doesn't seem to have it any more, but he's still on the leaderboard when you add up all the books I've ever read.

Vincent Bugliosi never disappoints.

I read "Shogun" by James Clavell on vacation last year. It was the best novel I've ever read. If I ever get another vacation, I look forward to trying another of his books.

I read this book in high school. I don't remember it much, but I do remember actually reading it all the way through which is quite an accomplishment for me, so it must have been better than most.
