View Full Version : Lee H. Jones on Omaha/8

Jones, in his Omaha/8 article in the Jan. Poker Digest, gives this advice, which I thought was a bit on the weak side:

In the BB he has the 'cheesey' 10-9-6-6 rainbow. Nobody raises and it's 4 way with the SB in.

6 4 2 all clubs.

The SB bet out. He says 'Even as a newbie, it was pretty obvious what I needed to do: fold without hesitation.'

Really?

In another hand, he holds A-9h 2s 9c. Nut low and nut flush draw. He calls after two others limp in. Two more follow. 5 see the flop unraised.

10c 9d 3h

The BB bet, one caller and he calls (no raise?), one more caller behind him.

[10c 9d 3h] Kd

BB bets again, same caller, Jones folds.

Is his trip nines really in that much trouble?

Thanks for comments.

Although I play a terrible game of Omaha, I believe his advice is right on the money.

Ray Zees advice would confirm I think.

2nd case he is getting 6.5 to 1 on a call for filling up on what would look to be the best hand if it hit. but the fact in omaha they can have a lot of surpises like ten nine or kk or ten ten. the fold isnt terrible and may be correct against alot of players.

and in the first case he has only 7 outs to beat a flush , so I don't like the hand either

---not to mention that little straight, which is a BIG possibility

The first hand sucks is several ways. It is likely beat for high and if it isn't now, it requires a pair to feel remotely safe by the river. And this is for only half the pot.

And the second hand isn't very good either. The only card I would really like to see on the river is the case 9. A straight or flush card would be awful, and pairing the 3s is the only other pair that is not terrifying.
