View Full Version : Omaha8 betting structure question???

I play in a home game, dealers choice with betting limits, and I've always thought that it was best to play 20-40-pot (river), as this gave me great implied odds. However, my thinking is that with this type of game (very loose, weak passive players), playing either $50 the whole way or true PL might be better as a big bet early punishes the weaker player who is on the draw. Also, if I'm dealt AA23 or some other premium hand, people will pay off a large preflop bet because they want the action.

Any comments on which betting structure might favor the strong player?

Thanks.

Not to avoid the main question, butI don't think AA23 is as premium a hand as you might think. I've had it maybe 20 times in the past year and it only won twice - and half the pot at that.

AA23 double suited is as premium as it gets in Omaha 8.

structured betting (limit) was an invention made to protect the weaker players. believed to have originated at one of the Vegas casinos, it kept players from going broke so quickly...thus the game lasted longer..thus the RAKE continued.

big bet games favor the better players...however in a home game situation there are a limited number of available players, and you might break up the game if you take money from weaker players too quickly...could be that you want game to last longer ( not in hours, but in weeks and months) to allow players to get money from next paycheck, etc ????
