I deal NL texas hold'em poker tournaments in GA ... it is a 4 times a week tournament with around 120 players per. I had a situation tonight that came up that I had absolutly no clue what to do. Here it is .................

Blinds were SB 5000 BB 10000 Ante 2000

There were players in seats 1,3,4,6,8,10 .... seat 10 was the SB and seat 1 was the BB. That hand ended and it was on seat 1 to post SB and 3 to post BB. The person sitting in seat 3 only had 2000 left(only enough to post the ante)now what I was not sure of was what I should do about the BB????? any help would be appreciated as i may not get sleep until i figure this out because it is really bothering me that I dont know.

What i did is I made seat 1 post SB and seat 4 post BB. seat 3 just posted ante and was all-in.

I am not completely sure, but I believe the BB is not posted, but anyone wishing to remain in the hand must put in at least the size of the BB.

I agree with you remen. It would be a similar instance of seat 3 having 4k instead of just the 2k ante. In that case he would post 2k as ante and his remaining 2k as the BB. Anyone wishing to enter the pot would have to pay the BB of 10k thereby creating a side pot with the SB provided he calls and everyone else folded. I'm not 100% on this so if anyone can shed further light on this it would be appreciated.

Clear cut. There's no BB on this hand and seat three is first to act.

The SB was all in for the ante and the hand should have played on without a BB being posted but action continuing as if it had been. The next player to act would have the normal options... call the BB or make a raise, or fold. He could NOT call the SB. The way you did it, what would have happened if the all in player had won? Where would you have put all of the blinds next time? This isn't that rare.... you just play without the BB. Hope your tournaments continue and you continue to ask questions and learn about the game.

I am quite sure the correct way is, the SB posts the SB as normal there would be no BB, seat 4 would choose to call the SB raise SB+a normal BB at least or fold, and so on.

SB posts his small blind as usual. Seat 3 posts the ante and then everyone continues as if Seat 3 had posted his BB as well. So if Seat 4 or any other player wanted to play the hand they would have to at least call the the amount that the BB should be.

Cheers,
Brad

Main pot with just antes, 1 all-in. SB starts side pot. SB 1st to act, no BB.
