Late in the tourney, there are 12 people left. The villian in this hand had shown the ability to lay down hands, and the couple times I'd miniraised, it had been folded around. Opinions all around please.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t3000 (7 handed)

MP1 (t18892)
MP2 (t41982)

UTG (t54470)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 9/images/graemlins/club.gif, J/images/graemlins/heart.gif.

Why min raise preflop? Was that stealing from the guy in the BB often? If it wasn't you should definetly raise more than the minimum if you are trying to steal the blinds. I would have probably done the same thing on the flop, it hit you very well and you want to charge a higher heart to draw to a better flush.

That's a huge overbet to me and seems to scream draw. You have TPNK, so that's not entirely the case, but I still wouldn't be comfortable making this play. I'd much rather not risk half my stack right now and just 1/2 pot it at this point. That represents enough of his stack for him to fold weak hands while not committing you to the pot. If he repops it, you can rethink your spot and probably fold mostly unscathed.

Also, if he calls your flop bet, I am pushing a non-heart turn. He can still get away from this hand now because of the 1/2 pot bet /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Hi Chief,

I'd come in for a little more preflop. I (like others) am not a big fan of the min-raise. On the flop, I like the play because I don't see how you fold to a checkraise all-in on that board.

Given that the miniraise has worked, I think it's okay. I follow Fossilman's advice to find the smallest raise that effectively steals blinds, and use that. I usually find that 2.5x works better, but whatever.

The flop all in is fine. You are likely either ahead, or drawing to the best hand. Even if he has something like black TT, you have 14 outs twice and are a favorite. The only time you are in trouble is when he has an overpair (unlikely) with a heart draw or if he happened to flop a set. Even then, you have outs. I like it.
