Referring to Kerry taking North Carolina...said it was the Kerry campaign hoping for hte victory, like "drawing to an inside straight"

that article by Lederer should be updated for today's politics

I saw that too, pretty funny hearing poker terms used during the election /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

No kidding... Because James Carville on CNN used this phrase several times, saying Kerry needed to 'draw to an inside straight'. I wonder if it's a common phrase in political circles.

He also made an analogy comparing the relative confidence of both candidates, he was surprised they were both so confident....

"It's amazing. These are two guys (Kerry & Bush) holding Royal Flushes."

Brokaw also used the inside straight analogy at about 2:00 AM when talking about Ohio. I think he should have said drawing to one out. I've been watching the news this morning and a lot of people are hoping Bush will muck a winner.

Yeah, at this point it looks like he's got 2 /images/graemlins/spade.gif3 /images/graemlins/spade.gif on a board of A /images/graemlins/spade.gif9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gifA /images/graemlins/diamond.gif and Bush has AA.

Dan Rather definitely said this. Did Brokaw say it too?

It wouldn't surprise if they sent their witty cliche/analogy lists to each other once midnight hit. Rather looked like he was really struggling for material.

CNN anchors Larry King and Jeff Greenfield also made a reference about Kerry needing to hit a flush on the river to win. Also heard Carville's repeated "inside straight" reference.

Dan Rather JUST SAID that "Kerry is drawing dead on the river, and the only thing he can beat is a bluff."

I swear.

I'm not making up the following:

At one point last night, when Carville said he's drawing to an inside straight, I was in the process of hitting the fold button on Stars.

My hand: T /images/graemlins/club.gif9 /images/graemlins/club.gif

The board: KQ2

I heard that too, and I immediately commented, "Damn, that's like 11-1."

Then I realized it probably wasn't so literal.

He later said something like, "Kerry's drawing to a double inside straight draw now".

Double Gutter?!?

My immediate comment: We've got 8 outs!
