View Full Version : You have to love stupidity..

Hi again all,

I remembered today why I love poker.. Sometimes I forget, especially after a bad session or when something else in my life just sucks. anywhoo..

A seat was open in the small 1-3 stud game, so I sat down while waiting for my regular 1-5 game.

Well, this might have been the greatest 1-3, hell.. greatest anything poker table I have ever sat at in my entire poker career.

Early into my session I was fortunate enough to be dealt a 'steel wheel' in the first 5 cards. I was also fortunate enough to have an opponent who had made four open 6's on their board.

6th street.. my opponent bets and everyone folds to me. I raise, and the old mad looked at me like I was some sort of psycho madman... Well he re-raised.. To make a long story short, he kept re-raising till I was out of the $100 of chips that I had bought in for. After I go all in ( and wished I had bought in for a lot more than the $100 as this guy had lots of chips in front of him ) and the dealer deals the last 2 useless cards.. he says (in a tone of voice that was chastising me of my stupidity)... 'Can't bluff an old timer kiddo. I've got quads. Right here in front of me for you and everyone else to see..'

I say as I turn over my cards ( and really trying not to laugh ).. 'That's a nice hand sir, but I have a straight flush that is now right here, for you and everyone else to see..'

Old Timer gets really red and pissed, throws his cards across the table and starts swearing at the dealer. He gets up and takes a 20 minute walk.

I haven't seen anything that stupid since I was living in Arizona playing at Casino Arizona where I once saw a guy who kept reraising an opponent on 5th street who had open trip Aces while his board was K-8-2 rainbow...

Needless to say I never left this 1-3 game. Old Timer was on tilt after that, coming after me whenever he had the opportunity. I took over $250 from him alone in 6 hours.

I love Poker!!

Today, at the Monte Carlo, I saw somebody CALL an opponent's bet on 6th street and on the river when the oppoenent had four Kings on his board. The Kings held up. What was that!?

I've never seen that before.

Hello, CJ,

I would have loved to have you beat my quads in N.O.! It would have been a jack pot hand! I guess there was no jack pot in your game. That is very unfortuate for your opponent.

However, your opponent still came out a winner! You couldn't cover all his action.

A couple of months ago, I lost 3 times in two weeks when I had K's full. However,I was really a big total winner because each time, my opponent had me beat, he was "all in".

I was ready to unload about 200.00 since I did not know the players! I really was a big winner each time my opponent beat me.

I felt blessed! The Poker gods were with me!

I've seen worse stupidity than that in hilo games. A man with open trip Kings raised as many times as his chips would let him, into a board of 2h4hTc6s. He then was digusted to find that his opponent had 3h5h in the hole.

That's right he had no full house, just the trips everyone could see, and he kept raising into an obvious low, that was almost certainly at least a straight, and a likely flush, or straight flush.

I once saw a guy go for Nine raises on the river in 4-8 holdem with a flush(!) There was a pair on board and his opponent naturally had quads. When the quads made the last raise the flush finally called instead of reraising. The quads said "I have two pair" and as the excited flush turned over his hand, the quads said "two pair, red twos and black twos."

How much was in the pot? In the Monte Carlo their is a min pot size to win the high hand, so it is considered a courtesy to call down quads so they can collect the jackpot.

I once had the bring-in with a deuce and then kept getting them. I paired on 4th and checked. (I had like 8-3 in the hole) It checked around. I got the 3d deuce on 5th. I laughed and bet and got 2 callers. I got the 4th deuce on 6th for all to see. I bet and got called and got real worried. He was either going to try a huge and impossible bluff or was drawing at something big. Maybe he had trips bigger than 2's and wanted to catch his one-outer. It didn't look like he had a straight flush draw. On the end I bet and he thought for about 15-20 seconds before folding. It was weird. He didn't want to put me on quads. There was no jackpot or anything; it was at the old Aladdin.

>Old Timer was on tilt after that

It seems this guy is always on tilt. Be nice to him.

There was plenty in the pot. The Quad Kings was already guaranteed the high-hand bonus money on 6th street.

I thought that very thing the moment the guy called. You have to love stupidity. /images/smile.gif
