View Full Version : basic razz

We just started throwing in some razz at my weekly game and I'm trying to learn some basics before I buy a book. Yardley's Education of a Poker Player has a pretty primitive, but logic system. Cards under 8 are the 'winning zone'. when you get 2 cards 8 or higher, dump it. (i'm paraphrasing this majorly).

Any other simple rules of thumb anyone cares to share?

Catching high can be a good thing sometimes. If your opponent catches a J and you catch a K you aren't too bad off because you will act last (assuming lowest hand acts first in your game) and if you improve to a better low than him you can bet when he checks or raise him.

In general I think you need to play against your opponent's upcards rather than simply worrying about how many cards yuo have above 8.

One of the Sklansky books includes "Sklansky on Razz."
