Given the following facts, which of the two is a better start hand:

A-K-Q suited

or

K-Q-J suited

Given fact: All required cards for pairs, straights, and flushes, are completely live.

The intention I have here is to win, not draw a Royal Flush. Can the K-Q-J suited be considered better because of the open ended straight draw? Or, does it fall short of A-K-Q because one is more likely to pair the Ace?

Mr. Zee, I'd love to hear from you on this.

A-K-Q suited is the better hand.

Not only can you pair Aces, but you are drawing to an A high flush. Plus you can always back into a straight.

they are virtually identical hands really. against no ace on board id go for the kqj, otherwise id go for the akc, multiway.

headup it would depend on what i thought he was playing but still they are about the same.

Try Poker Probe for these types of questions. I ran it on this one with 3 opponents and the answer was 40.7% with the A and 40.8% with the K high

I think they are identical. I would not play them any diffrent from each other
