Dear Players,

Game: 1-5 stud

(Ante,Bring-in)=(0,1)

6th St.

P: Opn-ended str. draw with "N" outs to complete the str.

P1: 2 pairs

P2: 2 pairs

Pot size: M

What is the minimum value of "N",min(N), for P to make the

correct call if M=45? 50?

how about making it so you can figure during the game. count your out say they are 4. say you have seen 17 cards(12 on board and 5 folded) so you need about 8 or 9 times the size of the bet to call to justify making your hand. (52-17=35 divide by 4) now take away the chances that you make your hand and they make theirs at the same time. maybe about 10 % . so add about 10% to the pot size. then figure the additional bets you win on the end minus those you lose when you hit and lose. munch it all together and you got the pot size you need to call.

as you do this a few times you will have a good feel for how big the pot needs to be to call with different hands. soon it becomes second nature and small mistakes wont be too costly especially those times you have a hand that could win without the improvement sometimes.

Hello,Ray

Thanks for the analysis.

I'm curious to know about what % of the field at your table goes thru a similar analysis. A guess is sufficient.

Given the time limitation at the table,is it reasonable to assume that no more than 10% of the players run thru this or a similar type of analysis?

half of the good players will think like this in the bigger games and the other half will intuitively know the right answer approximately. or they wouldnt have survived to be winners at the larger stakes games. the beakeven and losers will just make guesses on their best hunch.
