EV, "and it's not even close."
A bunch of posters use it interchangably with value, which shows a disturbing lack of understanding of the difference between value and expected value.

Either BB (meaning big blind or big bet) or "pockets". When some one says "pockets" for a pocket pair, it just grinds on me. Any two hole cards are your "pocket" cards, if you have a pair in the hole it's a "POCKET PAIR" not "POCKETS"!

For the ignorant amongst us, what's the difference between Expected Value and Value, before an event occurs?

The fact that you put that qualifier "before an event occurs" on there means you already know the difference.
The value of a non-random event is the expected value, but the expected value of a random event is not always the value.
