I play a lot of low limit full ring so I'm not familiar with shorthanded situations with big blinds and a top 3 payout schedule.

Anyway, was this too risky? (Note the BB's stack)

Easy call.

(Edit: as a side note, do you think the SB has you marked to be tight/weak?)

Easy push. 3x BB is pretty desperate, and you got to push anything decent in CO.

Does the SB's read really matter here? He's calling with any two. I assume you meant the BB and I would also act according to a read here and your image.

Interesting situation. According to http://www.gocee.com/poker/HE_Val_Sort.htm you win 58% of the time vs SB's random hand with QJo. SB's equity in the pot is therefore 195 chips. So your steal raise is stealing, on average, 250 chips.

I think that's worth it at this stage of the tourney. You need those chips or you're going to be in deep trouble when the blinds hit.

Limit/NL doesn't matter to your opponent at this point, but makes my question even more important.

Yes, 2x, 3x, no difference. But why is SB's read important?

Misread 1 fold as "I" fold. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Ignore me....

The raise here is good, particularly if you think there's a reasonable chance BB will fold. If he does you stand to lose at most 10 chips, and you have a pretty good shot at picking up 455. That's half your stack, and puts you in much better shape relative to the competition. If the BB does happen to have a hand, so be it. You may well be 40-45% against the BB and if you double up then you're the chipleader. If not, just start up another tournament. You need chips here.

There's some risk involved in this play, but I think it's far outweighed by the potential benefits.
