View Full Version : 5-10, no ante: strategy/approach?

Turning Stone in Upstate New York spreads 1-5 and 5-10 Stud. Neither has an ante (the $5-10 has a $2 bring in).

Shouldn't my strategy for this 5-10 be basically the same as 1-5, given that there are no ante's to fight over? As you might expect, the game is usually pretty tight (about the same as the 1-5).

Also -- is 5-10 played this way anywhere else? I had thought there was usually a $0.50 ante.

Doc:

As you can imagine you have to play pretty tight, as there are never any antes to steal.

As far as the east coast goes, TS is the only place that plays 1-5 and 5-10 with no ante. Most other places play with a 50 cent ante.

TS doesn't play this way as NYS laws are kinda touchy about $$$ playing. An example of this can be seen as in most casinos C-notes go in the pots and play. But at TS the dealer has to change them.

PS: I wonder if we have ever played together. ;-)

I'll be there tonight and tomorrow morning. I usually play 1-5 (initials CBS). I'll be in a plain blue polo shirt, jeans and glasses, and (hopefully) sitting behind stacks of chips.

Are you from Syracuse? I'm from Rochester and we're looking to add a couple people to our home game (1-2 HE & 1-3 Stud half-and-half).

Without an ante, I'd play 5-10 even tighter than 1-5. It must be a slow game, lol.

the amount that counts is the total amount of bring in plus the ante. so if the bring in is 2.00 its close to a 50 cent ante with no bring in charge for eight players. normal i guess may be 50 cent ante and a 2 buck bring in. but varies all over the world. with this just 2 dollar bring in i would bring a book and read while folding most all hands. unless of course they all play loose and dont raise on third street. then its like them anteing 2 bucks and you nothing.
