View Full Version : $1-5 -> $2-10 The same game?

I used to play stud and loved it, but it was grind as all that was offered was a $1-5 game. I see there is now enough interest that at times there is a $2-10 game.

Is there any strategy change needed between the two games? Rake is the same, bring in is $2 instead of $1. Thanks.

Mike,

Not the same game at all. I would advise watching for a while before jumping in. Just play tight if you decide to play. After a couple of sessions adjust your play to the players.

Assuming the antes are also proportionately the same, it tends to be a tougher game, especially if it's the highest stud game available in the area. However, if there's a mid-limit (10-20 or higher) hold'em or Omaha game available, the real tough guys are usually in that game and not in the 2-10 game.

Sometimes 2-10 is played with an ante in cardrooms where 1-5 is not, and that really changes the game. It tends to be much looser, and can be very profitable for a solid player.

What is the ante in each case (if any)?
