I bought some airline tickets to Hawaii in 2001. They were a good deal when I bought them. However, I travelled 6 weeks after 9/11 and could have probaly gotten the same price as my plane was almost empty. (I purchased the tickets pre-9/11).

From what I've seen, there are some good deals if you wait and watch. Be very aware of the "additional service charges" that may be added to the auction price. They are typically listed in the fine print.

Bottom line: You can still get deals, but make sure you know the true cost. It usually isn't the auction cost.
