There were only 35 entrants at this tourny with many beginers. You start with T10,000. Rounds were 30min each with blinds starting at 50-100 and doubling every level. So, the blinds got large quite quickly. Anyway, the play was increadibly slow with inexperienced players stalling the game at every second. On one level I played only 5 hands and it was very frustrating trying to accumulate chips when you can't play enough hands.

Needless to say I found myself sitting UTG with Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif9 /images/graemlins/club.gif with T16100 in chips and blinds 3200-6400. We were split into two tables of 5 and the final table would be combined to 8. The button was the other short stack at about T10,000.

Top 7 payed, but something like
1 - 2000
2 - 1000
3 - 700
4 - 500
5 - 200
6 - 200
7 - 200

I pushed it UTG with the Q9 and got called by A4o in the SB with a board of 877-9-A. Should I have just taken a look at the blinds here? I figured it wasn't worth it to make it to the final table unless you were aiming towards 1st or 2nd, so I was trying to double up here instead of survive.

Thanks,
Adam
