SO close to doubling up...

UTG limps for 30 and I make it 125 w/ AJd. BB calls. Three way flop.

J-8-7 all spades. Checked to me and I move all in, huge overbet for 1100. BB calls after some deliberation w/ AsTx, limper folds. Turn 9, river Ten, so we chop.

What do you think of my flop play?

Its always been my strategy to take it one level at a time. I understand your line of thinking, but I prefer this way.

Its not that I'm not trying to win it, but I also take into account winning smaller prizes and that is foremost in my mind since that will happen first.

very interesting situation.

I have about 9000 in SB, which is 750. I get AKos.

Small stack of 2500 pushes..of course, I'll call, but heres the kicker- A big stack calls. Obviously I don't want to tangle with him.

I decide to call, push if A or K comes. Check/fold if not.

Flop comes rags..check, check.

Turn is an A. I fear that he has two pair or something else. I decide to check, but call if he bets.

We end up checking it down. Big stack had 33. Shortstack had KJ.

Anyone think I was too passive after the ace came?

We're only 6 spots from money and we've been playing for 4+ hours, so keep that in mind.

I'd love some criticism here.

I feared A-x where he paired the x on the flop. I guess thats silly though since I said I would call if he bet- I'm really not accomplishing anything there then and should've just bet myself.

It isn't really a factor to me as I play in this one. My bankroll is enough that winning $1000+ won't matter much(I won that last night in the Fri special).

Anything over $5000 will definitely be nice, and obviously some of the top prizes here will drastically help my bankroll.

In short...I'll probably play the same way I'd play if this were a $10 tourney.

man blinds are huge: 1500/3000!

I'm under 9000 after they pass me by.

Need to get something soon!

damn...a few times I was going to push but someone before me raised which made my average hand not worth playing.

I'm trying to be more aggressive...just can't!

I just love playing them, especially the big ones like this.

I always get excited for the $640 ones.

I've really been trying to. Could've a few times with hands like A-10 but EP would raise in front of me.

Lately been getting nothing but 2-5 and 3-8.

All in on your blind now regardless.

EDIT: Although he doesn't post much, CRossiter is 2+2 as well.

Update at 5th break:

88 remain. I'm at under 9000 and going to be in the BB when play resumes. Blinds are 2000/4000, so I might just be all in here. Wish me luck!

We'll see. I've got a little more than 2x the BB, so I don't know if a hand like 2-4 is worth playing with a raise in front of me...we'll see.

Plus, if I last 8 more spots, thats $500 more. If I get crap, I think I'm gonna fold it and try to just play for the $500 more. If I get anything decent, I'll make a play at it.

Without question it is.

4-9 in BB, raiser and caller in front of me = easy fold imo.

3-6 in SB, raiser and 2 callers in front of me...another easy decision imo.

I'll use time bank if it gets close to me...Table will break up soon, so if I can time it right, I'll delay the blinds for a while.

Good job with the lack of cards.

So I had a question about folding equity... when you had less than the big blind, you obviously have no folding equity--you'll have to win a showdown, yeah? But with a sizeable bet in front of you, doesn't that kinda protect your folding equity, as everyone behind you will likely fold now, and you may get a HU? In order to call, you still need a hand, but you could call with a hand that's not great multi-handed, yeah? like a pair of fours?

Ax?

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this...

[edit: I realize a call might still get you head's up with the BB, but with the raiser, you've got larger pot equity, too]

That was the most timid effective play I've ever seen. I'm sure you were card dead, but you effectively limped from 20 spots before the cash all the to 75th, up a bunch of payment levels along the way. Well done!!!

Didn't even see the thread until now.

I busted out 16th, forced into my BB unexpectedly with A7 with 8000 left after posting 15,000 on my BB. The SB put me allin with A8 and I lost, obviously. My handle on Partypoker is John_Maximus.
