Can 50 cent stud at Paradise be beaten?

It has to be beatable. Just about any game full of clueless players can be beaten, though I can't say I've played it more than a few hands.

The .50/1.00 game is usually terrible because there's no ante. I'd play it only if there were several loose players in the game to make up for the lack of antes.

The 1/2 game is much better because it has a relatively huge ante (.25), which generates action.

Beatable for about $4 an hour in my experience. Nearly impossible to lose, but boring as hell to play. The micro stud hilo, gets lots of action without an ante, making it beatable for about $7 an hour.

I have played over 1,000 hours at these limits, although i don't think i will againas i am now more trusting of online games.

This game is more beatable than the microlimit hold-em games. You will routinely have your high two pair or trips called to the last card by as low a hand as a small pair in my experience.Beatable to the tune of 4 to 5 bets an hour on 250 hours play.

Lin,

If you are not a loose player in the 1-2, you will lose because of the ante and pot sizes, but in a no ante game, people don't need to play super loose for you to win, just too loose.

Could you explain this. Thanks.

While there may be more action with the huge ante I think it is almost impossible to win if there is a rake in that game. But the game with no ante can be beaten since your opponents only need to play loose on third street for you to profit.

if your point is that you willnot win much money in real terms because there is no ante then you are probably correct. But that sure beats losing which is almost inevitable in the ante game I think.

Actually, the widely-held belief that you have to play looser in a high-ante game is not entirely accurate. It applies only to games where the average pot is only a few bets, and you are unlikely to find such a game except at 30/60 and above.

In games where many pots are quite large (because the game is loose, with a lot of chasing going on), one good pot will pay for a helluva lot of antes. So you should play pretty much normal, solid stud and resist the temptation to sneak in with marginal hands - unless you are an expert, you are more likely to get in trouble with these hands and lose a lot of money than you are to catch miracle cards and win extra pots.

Roy West said exactly what you said in discussing how to play in 10-20 games.

No fancy plays. Play your normal good hands and the chips will eventually come your way.
