Just wondering what your thoughts were on this. I personally don't give a rats ass about slot machines but I would like to see gambling taxed and for that money to benefit the school systems which by the way are in serious need of money, this would at least create competition for the Seminole tribe which pays zero tax on gambling proceeds. Also, I would like to think that by voting yes it would somehow be a stepping stone to higher limits on the poker tables.
Just curious to hear what you think.

For those who don't know what I am talking about...Currently gambling is only allowed at the Tribal Reservations where they have Bingo, Video Slot machines and poker. Video slots are the scam of the century and the revenues they generate are not taxed and benefit nobody but the Seminole Tribe. Poker is limited to $1-2 stakes which is great for those who enjoy playing 1-2, but there are many of us you prefer much higher stakes poker and must resort strictly to home games. Amendment 4 is to allow Dade and Broward counties only the right to have regulated slot machines in Jai Alai frontons, horse and dog tracks.

I agree I would like to see it taxed and funds to benefit the schools. Plus I also agree about the stepping stone example. Slot machines suck, but any kind of improvement in Florida gaming is good. Slowly but surely, it may take a long time, but we will get there (in regards to higher stakes poker)

I will say i disagree with you, the revinues raised by the Seminole Tribe of Florida have not been, will not be and SHOULD not be taxed, This is a proud people who for decades lived under strict rules telling them how to live which meant poverty, they have not sitten back like others in our society and have waited for hand outs. The casinos they own and run as well as many other business provide jobs for many NON tribal people. the Seminole Hard Rock alone provides 5000 jobs and the needs to keep up the operation of such a huge business provide income and jobs for many outside vendors . The moneys that have been talked about if researched will go to the whole state not just dade and broward. The commercials show the 2 places that it wouldnt affect if passed the Casino cruises and the tribes casinos.
Please remeber that our government has taken land forcably and broken every treaty ever written with native americans , so maybe it is time they have a shot at being the soverign nations they are with out assistance from the outside.
I am not a native american, and feel it they should be left to grow . Also in defnse of the Seminole tribe , they are constantly donating money to non tribal charitys like the Boys& Girls club they just built in Hollywood but of course people dont see that........ Learn about the tribe before you want to take away from them... If the local governments LIke Ft Lauderdale and The city Of Miami werent in such a fiscal crisis I am sure this wouldnt even have been brought up.

Slacker,

FWIW, I voted yes on Amendment 4. Competition is a good thing.
