View Full Version : Official Houston/St. Louis game 7 thread

This is amazing to me. From ESPN:
Through six games, both teams have the same batting average (.246), ERA (4.80) and the same number of runs scored (29).

Going to be one hell of a game 7.

Go 'Stros!!!!!!!!

MrGo

I'm not sure how confident St. Louis fans can be with Suppan starting game 7. Here are the numbers for Suppan:

vs. Houston this year: 1-4 with a 4.11 ERA. At home this year Suppan is 6-8 with a 4.75 ERA. Houston is batting .306 against him. Last outing vs. Houston (game 3): 6 innings 5 hits 3 runs (all earned) 2 walks and 3 SO's.

Now Clemens' numbers:

vs St. Louis this year: 2-0 with a 2.36 ERA. Away this year, Clemens is 6-1 with a 3.43 ERA. St. Louis is batting a whopping .189 against him. Last outing vs. St. Louis (game 3): 7 innings, 4 hits 2 runs (both earned) 2 walks and 7 SO's. Add on the experience Clemens has...advantage Houston.

St. Louis needs to jump on Clemens early and to get to their bullpen to have a chance. Houston will use Oswalt if needed and Lidge will be available for at least 1 inning, probably two. Houston will put up runs against Suppan - St. Louis will need to do the same early against Clemens otherwise it's watching the Series for St. Louis.

Go. 'Stros!!!!!!!!!!

Cards win, 3-2. I think it will be a low scoring game, and they may need to get a run off of Lidge somehow to win it. I'm looking forward to winning an El Diablo dollar!

I agree with you, but he was facing Clemens in that game..and he is facing Clemens again this game. This was one of Suppan's better outings and he still lost. He needs to do better than this and have Clemens be sub-par at best to win, which I don't see happening. Will be a good game though.

I think pitching is to be feared more than hitting in the playoffs so as a Red Sox fan I fear the Astro's. But the prospect of the Red Sox attempting to exorcize 86 years of demons against arguably the best pitcher in their modern history, Roger the Rocket Clemens, is just to good to pass on.

Go 'stros.

cjromero
10-21-2004, 01:22 PM
In Game 3, the Astros got ahead quickly, going up 3-1 after the first inning thanks to a 2-run shot by Jeff Kent. Clemens had given up a solo shot in the top of the 1st.

If the Astros jump ahead early, I don't see the combination of Clemens, Oswalt, and Lidge giving up the lead.

Having said that, I have been an Astros fan too long to be overconfident. I remember 1980. And 1981. And 1986. And 1998. And 1999. And so on.

If you believe in curses, then it probably is the Astros' year to advance to the World Series and face the Red Sox. That way, the 128 years of combined frustration of Astros and Red Sox fans can be, at least largely, put to rest.

I'm expecting an epic Clemens performance tonight.

The only thing that would make a Sox/Stros series better, would be if Dan Duquette was still there so that Rocket could break it off in his AAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS!!

No, it's the only one that matters, because it's the one that boils all the available data (including yours) into a simple, basic, and fairly accurate assessment of the probability of the various outcomes. In this case, the Cards have about a 53.5% chance of winning.

Just a quick question, why would you assume that I'm an Astros fan? Rooting for them over the Cardinals and rooting for Roger Clemens does not necessarily mean that I am a fan of theirs. I happen to be a Cowboys, Rangers, and Yankees fan. And as a fan of those teams, I am not afraid to admit I am a fan when they lose.

1-2-3 inning for Suppan. He's finally calmed down and is settling in nicely. Cards batters are starting to work deep into the count against Clemens, and I doubt he'll work through the seventh. Lidge won't be able to pitch more than one inning, so the Cards will have their chances.

Getting ready to change his avatar and location?

If Rolen hits a HR here, Izzy can't lose it on a grand slam.

Yeah, I agree. Cardinal team going to be damn scary for the Red Sox. Great defense, good job getting productive outs, incredibly clutch hitting.

Don't worry clark, I think the Cards have this one up, even though the 'Stros can steal with the slam.

naw, I will be pulling for STL, I am not sure why. I like a lot of their players, plus they don't have clemens.

The Red Sox don't have Clemens either. They got rid of him in the twilight of his career.

I looked though this thread, I never said anything about Clemens. In fact I said the Astro's fans they shouldn't be over confident with Suppan pitching because his last outing was pretty strong. moot point now though.

Congratulations to the Cardinals. They were the best team in the NL during the regular season and they did what they had to do to pull the game out. I never thought the Astros would lose Game 7 with a rested Clemens on the mound.

In addition to the bats going pretty silent since the beginning of Game 5, one of the Astros' key weaknesses reared its ugly head in Game 7: poor defense. Kent and Vizcaino have poor range up the middle, and Biggio couldn't throw out the fat version of Jared from Subway if Jared tried to take an extra base.

Anyway, congrats to Clark, Challenger, and the rest of the Cards' fans. It should be a high scoring series.

Thanks, your guys really gave the Cards all they could handle. It was a good series, and I agree that some better defense would have kept you guys in the game. Some of those ground ball singles were pretty ugly.

Nice win for the Card's.

Let's see, who to root for??? Since I must be a fan to root for a team, I guess I will go for the Sox.

Good luck to you in the future.
