The long-awaited UK Gambling Bill has been published, according to the BBC News. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3754960.stm)

They are going to hit online gambling hard, with "Compulsory age checks by gambling websites operating from the UK".

The video (http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/video/39943000/rm/_39943588_gambling18_addison11_vi.ram) is fun to watch.

It all sounds good to me, from what I've read.

Hey Guys,

One issue and one issue only. Are they (or do we think they will) put a tax on poker winnings?

Not sure if this really qualifies as being hit hard... i think all will agree it is the right thing to do. Hopefully you limeys will do this regulation thing right and then file a protest against the US via the WTO. I think the UK carries just a tad bit more weight then Antigua. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

As it currently stands this bill will not reverse Gordy's 1991 lifting of the taxes on gambling... and i think there are way too many issues already in this bill for these taxes to be added on via an amendment.

Not a chance.

The reason they are rushing this through in my opinion is because they know the only way to tax us is to have us lose money within the confines of our island and tax the operators.

If they started to tax us, all people would have to do is claim they lost a fortune, and they have to pay us /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Hence it won't happen

[/ QUOTE ]Agreed, no way this will ever happen here.
And it's not a crackdown, it's an attempt toloosen up the archaic gaming laws in the UK, and introduce regulation of online sites, so tha tthey will be able to run servers from the UK rather than Antigua/Curacao or god forbid Gibraltar /images/graemlins/blush.gif

The interesting part of the young persons protection (and I think at the moment they should be verifying ages anyway under current law) is that it is against the law to allow children/young persons into the gamblng areas, however it is also against the law for a young person to be in the gambling area, so at the same time both could be prosecuted (although I suspect it would be the casinos that did)
