Just watching a friend of mine playing 15/30 Party at lunch. Hes really not good enough for 15/30 but thats beside the point.

I saw the most idiotic plays during these couple rounds. People calling a capped flop with A2, Raising KJo and calling down UI after its capped BTF. 23 BB pots that contained A6o, TT, KJo and JJ. all showed down UI. Raises called by 87s and A2. It was incredible.

Anyone want to stake me for 15/30?? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I played some drunken 15-30 last night (I play 2-4/3-6) normally, the rest of the table seemed drunk also.

We get into a lot of bankroll related phobias, I read your posts, you pretty much crushed me when I sat with you on AP during my unsuccessful attempt at bonus whoring. You're a good player. Theres nothing wrong with trying to sit for a bit at those games, and play good poker. If you go to a casino you don't bring your whole roll with you, the clubs in NYC the lowest limit they have is 4-8, I don't say I'm not gonna sit there because it's technically not in my range. So sit with the 750 and play an orbit or 50...if you feel overwhelmed get out, or you could win a quick pot and leave. (which I should have after a $400 first hand last night).

Please also note this could be horrible advice, my first attempt at this, I lost the full $750.

PS> I'll use this also to apologize to anyone I sucked out in my 1:30 EST lagfest on the 2-4 tables last night, a dozen or so pints and a brutal yankees loss make me a bit crazy.

I've changed my thinking recently and decided that long-term I want to be playing in the Party $15/30, but everyone's got their own comfort level and reasons for playing what they play.

I also think that there's nothing wrong with taking shots at bigger games as long as you understand the risks. Most of the really good players that play high took shots and ran well while doing so, and it just sort of accelerated their growth process. I think Ed Miller posted about something like this within the last few months. Phil Ivey and GuyOnTilt stand out as good examples. It's not like these guys wouldn't be playing big games and beating them eventually, but being willing to take shots at bigger games and happening to run well while doing so was a big part in moving up and developing so quickly.

Personally, I'm just a big girl and am totally risk-averse with regards to my bankroll and what limits I play, but to each his own.

And I thought having 1100 BBs for 3/6 was just prudent bankroll management.

Here's the Ed Miller post on taking shots at bigger games. (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=holdem&Number=845155&Forum =All_Forums&Words=%2Bphil%20%2Bivey%20%2Bshots&Sea rchpage=0&Limit=25&Main=842547&Search=true&where=b odysub&Name=&daterange=1&newerval=1&newertype=y&ol derval=&oldertype=&bodyprev=#Post845155)

He's a bit more negative about taking shots at bigger games than I remembered.

To be fair, I am also playing $5/10, and I suck, so a big bankroll is necessary.

And in a live 4/8 game apparently full of mechanics.

I'm neither positive nor negative about it. Shots offer greater potential rewards with greater risks. It's a personal decision. Some people take shots, get lucky, and it works out really well for them. Others take shots, lose, and end up in serious bankroll trouble. You don't hear so much about them.

I want the 15/30, but have the standard Party dilemma. My BR is 500BB for the 5/10, but I really would rather not learn SH. I know there are good reasons to learn it, but I've spent a good year getting the hang of full-table games. The 5/10 fulls are okay, but not great. So I sit at the 3/6, building my BR slowly and knowing that the jump to 15/30 lies many months away.
