What about the ever important news that Annie Duke is having a sitcom made about her life? I like how they refer to male players as thugs.

"Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe on the long-running NBC sitcom Friends, has inked a new deal with NBC for her production company to create a new comedy based on the life of professional poker player Annie Duke.

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky's Is or Isn't Entertainment has signed a new two-year deal with Warner Bros. Television. Following a successful first development season, the 1 1/2-year-old company has already set up three projects through the new pact, including the HBO pilot "The Comeback," which stars Kudrow. On the broadcast side, the company has sold a comedy with writer-producer Jack Burditt to NBC based on the real-life story of Annie Duke, a single mom and one of the world's top poker players, and a dramedy to CBS, which Bucatinsky will write. Both are co-produced with WBTV. "We feel fortunate to be able to keep doing what we've been doing," Bucatinsky said. "We've been very happy at Warners."

The Annie Duke project, which landed at NBC after a heated bidding war with CBS, has received a script commitment with a sizable penalty from the network.

Burditt will pen the script. Kudrow, Burditt and Bucatinsky will executive produce.

Duke, a Portland, Ore.-based single mom of four, is the top female money winner in tournament poker and is featured on Travel Channel's "World Poker Tour" series.

With a small loan and a few tips from her brother Howard "The Professor" Lederer, a successful poker player in his own right, Duke began playing poker in local legalized card rooms and soon moved to the tables of Las Vegas. Duke, who has earned millions of dollars over the past 10 years, is known as one of the toughest players in the sport, male or female.

Still, her kids remain her priority, and she's been known to walk away from a big tournament to be with them.

Bucatinsky said he got the idea of developing a comedy around a Duke-inspired character about a year ago while watching her in action during a World Series of Poker match. He and Kudrow made more than a few trips to Vegas to hang out with Duke and get to know her.

"I found her to be an incredibly spirited, intelligent, fascinating woman," he said. "One minute you see her sitting around a poker table playing with all these thugs, and then the next minute you'll see her getting out of a minivan with her four kids."

This project is only in the very early stages - and there is no firm timetable as to when it may debut on NBC. Projects are regularly signed to development deals that never actually reach the broadcast schedule. With the current popularity of poker, and the bidding war that ensued with CBS to retain the rights to the show - it's a good bet that this project will get priority status at NBC and make it to the air in some form. It's still a long way from concept to realization at this point, however."

good stuff Cubs.

Here's some other stuff. Not trying to step on your toes. I get an e-mail every couple of weeks or so with a bunch of different links.
Like Cubs, I'll be willing to post this stuff here as well if there is decent interest.

Most of this stuff is just casino-stuff and is not poker-related so likely is not AS interesting as the good articles that Cubs listed.
But someone may find some nuggets of useful info in these links.

I already posted the article on Cecil Fielder in the NVG forum. It's a pretty freaking sad story of a multi-millionare and former fan-favorite of the Detroit Tigers who has lost EVERYTHING.

I don't think anybody knew much about this.
It's the first I heard about it.
I think the Detroit News just broke this story.

There's more discussion on it in the NVG forum.
I kind of like the Tigers and Fielder was just a monster home-run hitter.

As I mention over in NVG....the story is very reminiscent of multi-millionaire Leonard Toes, the former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles who lost EVERYTHING in several drunken nights at the BJ tables in AC.
He now is penny-less and lives in a small apartment that is paid for by his former coach and good friend Dick Vermeil.
that story was on Real Sports on HBO a couple years ago.

Just some mind-boggling stuff.
