I don't think they have and D. Lowe is looking strong in the first inning.

Winning the ALCS is going to be like hitting a two-outer on the river. If the Sox are between 2:1 and 2.5:1 two win each indivicual game, it'll work out to about 22.5:1. Of course, history says it's harder than that.

The 1988 and 1990 losses in the ALCS to the A's were also 4-0 sweeps. They were the most unenjoyable series I ever watched. There's just no joy in an uncompettive series.

Do you think SaltCracka likes my sense of humor?

Losing all
10-17-2004, 08:52 PM
I agree, sweeps suck! the 2000 series was maybe the worst ever. That's why Beltran's bomb was so great today. It was the first time I jumped out of my chair this post season, and I was screaming "get the fuq out" 2 or 3 seconds after it hit the seats. Good times.

I'd like to see Boston win at least one for dramatic value, if nothing else.

Joe Tall

Yeah, I think so. I was real tough on him today and he seems to be a good sport about it. I would even invite him to this thread but I can't respond to that thread w/that title.

As a Yankee fan I am of course rooting for a sweep but I cannot imagine the Redso laying down to the Yankees. I wouldn't be surpised if the series goes back to NY

I wouldn't either. Granted, facing Mussina is going to be tough but it would be nice.

The lineup changes on both teams and the pitching match up is interesting, so far a pitchers duel.

By the way, SaltCracka, I suppose you deserve an explanation.

The Red Sox are the premier, numero uno, undisputable Chokemasters in the entire world of Sports. No other professional team, in any sport anywhere in the world, even holds a candle to them in this department.

Give them a 3-0 lead in games the next time they make it to the World Series, and a healthy lead in the 4th game, and you are flipping a coin if they win the series or not. In fact the true odds would probably be against them at that point, regardless of their opposition. They have a seemingly supernatural ability to choke in the clutch, that is all, and the strength of this power sems to increase in accordance with how close they are to a grand victory.

You, Daryn, and Joe Tall will all be old and grey before the Red Sox ever win a world series again.

I know you don't believe me, but you will, eventually. Daryn and Joe Tall will learn the hard way because they are from Boston and will cling to frail hope longer than the others.

If you don't believe me, ask John Cole. He knows too. Or should I say, he KNOWS, but he just doesn't want to really admit it. Hell, what would be the fun in that?

So you guys have your fun rooting for the Sox. I've always shot straight on this forum. Twenty years from now don't say M didn't tell you how it really is, and how it always will be. And no, Daryn, I'm not joking even in the slightest. This is the cold and painful truth.

No, I did not realize that. Don't worry, Salt, you will be laughing over the years. Poor deluded Red Sox fans; I used to be one for a few days in the sun, but I learned, oh how I learned.

The key is the clutch. Don't go against them just to be going against them, or because they are the Red Sox: wait, and wait, and wait....until a really big clutch situation comes up. Then go against them with everything you can afford and you will not be disappointed.

It's ridiculous to be playing at 1 AM, isn't it? I know they want to make sure the first game's over by the time the second one starts, but still.

OK, 2 outs. Damon might be able to get ahold of one.

Orlando Cabrera is now 0-2 in "joining boston red sox infamy". Got to love watching pro-athletes choke.

They should pinch run for Posada. I can outrun him.

andyfox
10-18-2004, 01:14 AM
Especially now with Posada on second, they should run for him. But I guess if they do, they lose the pinch-runner (Enrique Wilson), and then need to put in Flaherty to catch.

I wouldn't say that(if indeed that isn't sarcasim). Boston just got bailed out there.

On a side note, it must be freezing out there...

That sounds like a good plan. I don't think torre wanted to take that chance and lose posada for the night though.

Anyway, after last night's travesty, this was better baseball tonight.

BTW, you notice Sheffield won't jump for any balls. And judging by the way he catches ordinary fly balls off to the right, I imagine he can't lift his arm up too high above his shoulder.

Eventually, this will work.

Well, you want to know something strange...I tried to post the same, "Do it. Do it. GO SOX! -JT", everytime. Yet, the 2+2 server must have something that keeps track of the post's content because when I first tried to repeat it, the server gave me, "this post already exsist." So, I added a '!!' to the SOX the first time, a 'RED' the next and then, finally, I left a 'space' out between the 'Do it. Do it.' and it worked.

GO SOX!

Why not? He had already caught 11 innings. Torre hadn't made one line-up or position change all night.

Yeah, no question their starting pitching has been better than expected in the post-season.

M,

I know. And I have admittted such many times. BTW, I don't care if they win the World Series, I just like to see them get to the final game. Sure beats a Marlins/Yankees series.

I don't see anything wrong with rooting for the Red Sox or with being a fan, lest Daryn and Joe misunderstand me. It can be exciting indeed to see them in the playoffs or the Series.

It's just that no matter how hard you try, you can't shake off the feeling that you already know how this movie is going to turn out. And while it may be surprising just how they manage to do it, they will manage to do it, someway, somehow. That's the part younger fans haven't had time to get yet.

seriously, if you believe your own words, you have mental problems. there is no curse.

if they lose this year, they lose. if they make it to the world series in 10 years and lose, oh well they lose.

andyfox

There may be a sweep yet, if we define it as winning four games in a row. In fact, there may be one in each series.
