I was under the impression that when you used the phrase "coming over the top" you were suppose to be talking about a raise in no-limit, not just a 1 bet raise in limit....

cause like 4-5 people at my table kept saying it last night and it was driving me crazy.

maybe they just loved trying to be really dramatic?

You didn't think they sounded really cool using the hip lingo they learned watching Phil Gordon on Celebrity Poker.

I just happen to get really annoyed and correct everything someone says wrong in my head (nice diction, eh?), and sometimes out loud...

"ohh man I can't believe you reraised me with that hand"
"I didn't REraise you.... you bet and I raised, get it right you mother [censored] idiot!!!!!" (well all except the last part)

As long as no one else decides to join the conversation going on in your head you're o.k. If anyone in there jumps in and starts arguing the point ya might wanna get yourself checked out.

I really HATE talking about poker at the low limit tables because all it would end up being is me correcting everyone on their horrible horrible play or listening to bad beat stories.

I listened for 3 hours last night as some guy droaned on and on about perfectly mundane bad beats he experienced "I play playing a tourney online and I flopped two pair and the guy got a straight on the river" blah blah blah SHUT UP!

Thank god I had a ton of chips I could play with and stack in cool designs so I could be occupied.

I agree...The only thing worse is when they're drinking.

I have a theory that if you've been playing for long enough to be annoyed by this type of talk, and you're still playing low-limit, you deserve your suffering.

But my theories are never any good, so just disregard it.

Hey. Ya play whatever table ya can BEAT. Nothing wrong with slapping the low limit tables around.

Good theory. However, I don't play $2-4 because I don't have the money to move up.

Also "high limit" at my casino is $6-12. They have a board for $10-20, but I've only seen it run once.

Could be worse. You could live here in Miami where state law says the big bet is $2 max.

I have this same problem. Ever notice that a lot of people think a check-raise is when you check on one round and then raise on the next? Drives me nuts.

The "strategy" discussions are even worse. Overhearing some table coach spewing out rediculous advice gets old REAL fast. I usually keep quiet but I really just want to smack him.

The last time I played live, these two serious players had the whole table convinced that if more than 6 players have already limped in and you're on the button, it's correct to play any two cards. Another guys says "Yeah you'd have to. The pot odds are just too good." I couldn't hold back the laughter on that one. I didn't explain why though.

I'd like to move up, but all they ever spread is 4/8. Sometimes on weekends they'll have 10/20 but I don't have the frickin roll for that.

Just another reason for playing online. Chat=off.

Two things:

1) I think that it is perfectly acceptable to use the phrase "coming over the top" to describe, say, a three-bet on the turn in limit hold'em.

2) You are a nit.

I think it sounds stupid in limit.

I think it sounds stupid in any context.

Also, I only discuss joke/bizarro poker strategy at the table anymore.
