Someone did a post about this a while back and it seemed to be pretty popular. List any new CD's you have purchased or acquired recently so we all know whats good out right now.

Some I recently received.

Mobb Deep - Americaz Nightmare..... pretty cool cd, I def recomend it if you like hip hop, especially east coast stuff,

Masta Ace- A Long Hot Summer..... really good hip hop CD, he has some amazing lyrics on this CD.

Theodore Unit- 718.... This is Ghostfaces crew, good stuff, sort of a mixtape though.

The Shins- Chutes to Narrow.... good stuff, def recomend this if you like indie rock music

Brad Mehldau's "Live in Tokyo". solo piano from one of the best pianists in jazz today, and an extended version of radiohead's "paranoid android".

Herbie Hancock's "The Piano". Herbie solo, nuff said.

Herbie Hancock is a weird dude, he does like Jazz then turns around and does some old school hip hop [censored]. He's a cool dude though.

Cormega- Legal Hustle Probably his worst CD. This shitty chick Dona is on every song. His verses are still good

This is a very cool record. Reminds me of Sim City 3000, zoning land and building parks on the african swallow speed.

not a fan of slipknot, but it seems like a lot of the younger guys on here(except me) seem to like the hard hard rock.

I listen to every type of music. My cd player consist's of Dinah Washington, Eminem, Rush, Disturbed, I have country music, you name it. The newest CD is Matt Dusk's Two Shots and I personally love the cd. Only downside is I have an urge to hit Vegas everytime I listen to it.

Salt, it's Matt Dusk, he is the lounge singer at the Golden Nugget in LV, he is always on the show 'the casino". He sings the opening song "Two Shots" and sounds alot like Sinatra, Deano and tony bennett rolled into one. Great Vegas music.

me too, I need to pick up the new one. I loved black on both sides. for herbie, maybe "thrust" is the only other one really like that. he's all over the map stylistically, I love his more straight ahead jazz stuff too. he plays some amazing gospel/jazz on grant green's "feelin the spirit".

I read some reviews from a lot of hip hop heads. It was about 75% "Hot!", 20% "ehhhh", 5% "garbage". It sounds like a concept album, so I think you will probably like it. Dare I say, Herbieish?

Has anyone heard the new Velvet Revolver CD? I like both singles that I've heard on the radio. Is the rest of the CD any good?

astroglide
10-15-2004, 05:19 PM
i've heard it, wasn't impressed with the non-singles. i think they could produce a gnr-quality album if there wasn't pressure/hype/addiction to deal with. give them a full year with no drug hobblings and they could make a gem, who knows.

Salt,

Just bought Masta Ace and Mobb Deep. They're not bad. I'm not used to East Coast hip hop, but I kind of liked it.

ThaSaltCracka
10-16-2004, 05:35 AM
Give the Masta Ace a couple more spins. Its actually a really tight CD. As for the Mobb Deep, if you don't like it after a few spins, then maybe its not your style. It is a pretty good CD, but not their best. But still one of the better rap CD's this year.

Not use to East Coast? You like the west or the dirty dirty?

wacki

Ya, I'm a huge Tupac fan. I like Scarface, Eminem, Trick Daddy & Cee-Lo (Dro in da wind), DMX, Bazaar Royal (What's it all for), 50 cent, etc. I like hip hop, but west coast seems to have alot more melody to it than east coast (in general). Being a guitar player, I naturally favor melody. You know, the stuff you can kindof hum to. It's impossible to hum to alot of the east coast stuff. 50 cent is one exception to east coast not having alot of melody. As far as dirty dirty, is that south? I really don't care about what coast is what. I have friends in Cali, Texas, and on the east coast. Good music is good music.

BTW, Masta Ace is growing on me, and fast. It's more of a late night CD for me right now, when I'm a bit more calm or relaxed.

Are you gonna get the Seven Steps Box? I can't decide. I've got most of the music on other incarnations, so that's slowing me down.

The Branford is remarkable. Ever since he formed his own label I think he's just grown leaps and bounds. Everything he's putting out seems to be getting better and better. It's surprised me that on my best jazz of 2004 will probably be 2 ballads albums. This one and the one Joe Lovano released earlier. If you haven't heard that you should go get it. I'm really interested in the Joey Calderazzo release. Have you heard it?

Epic Hero - New Life
Snow Patrol - Final Straw

Masta Ace is a good work CD man! Soda and Soap and Brooklyn Masala(sp) are awesome songs.

If you like the west more, look out for The Game. He is Dr. Dre's new protege and his cd should be coming out some time after Eminems.

Also if you like Cee-Lo, def check out his old group Goodie Mobb, in particular the CD's "soul food" and "still standing". You also can't go wrong with anything from Outkast.
