What is Second Hand Low?

I've seen it thrown around a couple times, and have no idea what it means. Anyone know?

I think the question revolves around playing preflop.

As in, UTG raises (or calls) and UTG+1 just calls with AA, looking for someone else to raise before they raise themselves.

btw - In bridge, second hand low means that you intentionally play a low card so that you don't take a trick that partner would have taken.

Umm.. No.

Its "second nut low". Its for games where the low hand wins either all or half the pot. If you have the second nut low, you have the second best possible low hand at that point.

I was asking about second hand low, not second nut low.

The post that made me ask about it was this one, by betgo:

That is the post that I derived my answer from.

Maybe it is a fancier name for a slowplay, like when you flop a monster and want to trap the field for extra bets with a check/raise.

Everybody here has got it all wrong, "second hand low" is a saying in the card game of bridge when it is generally correct for the declarer to play a low card from the dummy after a opening lead from the defenders. "second hand low, third hand high" is generally true and that message is constantly emphasized for beginning players.

That is definitely true.

However, in poker "second hand low" refers to just calling in early position with AA preflop in hopes of popping a late position raiser. It's discussed briefly in TJ Cloutier's PL/NL HE book, towards the end in one of the practice hand discussions.
