View Full Version : Thoughts on Multi Tabbing versus going up a limit

Ive been multitabbing 2 $3/$6 tables at Empire and having marginal sucess.

Tonight I decided to play a few hours of $5/$10 6 max. I did very well. I found myself winning pots with bluffs pots and getting paid off with my monsters. The concepts in Hold Em for Advanced Players actually worked!

Only problem is that I dont have anywhere near 250 x $10 bankroll to play at the limit.

Suggestions?

I would not, 6 max is much higher variance than 10 ring. Also stick to 1 type, 6 max or full ring, choose 1 and master it and if that happens to be 6 max prepare to play like a finely tuned maniac:)

Ive seen several posters around here say that the 6 max games are easier?

Don't even think about it.

You've had marginal success at 3/6 which I'm not sure how exactly to take it, but I'll take it to mean you're a small winner.

Play 2/4 as it's a more profitable game than 3/6 for even good players, build up a proper roll, and you'll be far better off when you actually get to 5/10 because you'll be a better poker player and have the bankroll to withstand any swings.

I'd wager you just hit the upside of the variance curve.

If you really think you might like 6 max, try the 1/2 6 max and get the hang of it.

Making a decision about what limit to play based on the results of a single night's play is reckless and illogical.

I disagree. In my experience 3/6 is a little harder than 2/4, but it's not >33% harder. 3/6 should be a more profitable game for most winning players.

It is always better to play a more tables of a lower limit than less of a higher limit in which they total to be equivalent, so I would suggest moving to 4 tables instead of moving to any different limit.

And this prepares you to be a better player at higher limit how?

I'll second that. I have 90k hands at 3/6 and I think it's a great game.

Never a clear answer when it comes to poker

how is that not a clear answer? smaller stakes multi-tabling only means that you're increasing your repititions at that lower stake. playing four tables of 3-6 for an hour is the same as 1 table for four hours (assuming you play equally well 4 tabling as you do 1 tabling). your risk of ruin is the same, either way, but your expected earn is quadrupled.
playing one table of a higher limit is not the same thing. your expected earn may be the same, but your risk is way up.
