They are steaming the Cardinals

Cards -200
Astros +170

That line is from Olympic as it is the only site I see with it up. The Yankee-Sox line is from Pinnacle and is rather stable as it is a day old now.

The Cardinals are amazing, and Houston has had to go for the full 5 game series, but WTF? Houston's been incredibly hot lately. I like the Cardinals, but Houston still has Oswalt and Clemens. Wow.

I'm surprised too, I expected it to be about the same as the Boston/Yankee line.

Olympic just took the Cardinal line down. That's pretty amazing. I'll see if I can find a line up at a different book. Pinnacle doesn't have one up yet.

I thought it would be as well. I'd guess it has a lot to do with what the national telecast announcers have been saying about the NLCS for the last two days. They make it sound like the LCS is just a formality for the Cards...

This line is a bit shocking. THe 'Stros are going to score 5 runs a game. The question is can the team they are playing score 5 runs in 7 innings.

Pinnacle has it up now that it's stabilized. -191/+181

Pinnacle is getting hammered with Cardinal money too. They've moved it to -205/+190.

What's the biggest line swing you've ever seen?

I think about six or seven years ago the Bengals opened as three point favorites over Dallas. Dallas was favored by two or three at game time.

I can't believe more money isn't following the Yankees.

Road:
Backe 1-2, 6.52, .347 BA
Munro 1-4, 5.29 .325 BA

That's the season splits for the Astro's game 1 and 2 starters, the first of which is going on 3-days rest for the first time ever. And if it goes far enough, the Astro game 6, and 7 starters will all be going on 3-days rest, both of them for the second time in 2 weeks. That's asking a lot of a team with miserable middle relief.

The line is starting to make a little more sense I think.

Current line from Pinnacle:

Cards -212
Stros +197

Current line after game 1:

Boston +142

Is this the game line or the series line?

On any given day I don't see the Cards having a 2 : 1 advantage. The Astros are running pitcher by committee for the first 2 games so certainly they are at a disadvantage but me thinks there is a bit of overlay.

All lines in this thread are Series lines.

FYI, I've seen the game 1 line as high as -240.

At some point are you going to tell us how much you wagered on the series and at what price? If the Astros somehow miraculously manage to overcome the loss of half their rotation to beat the Cardinals, it'll make the victory all the more sweet knowing how much it cost you.

Seeing as you are afraid to say anything until after the Stros win, I'd just ignore you. Pot shots get ignored. Diablo, The and Tilt, Guy on get the right to say anything they want as they have been in the trenches the whole time.

I won't be betting on the series other than the friendly wagers I've made with the two listed above. The Cards are by far my favorite team in sports and I have plenty of emotional collateral riding on them as it is.

So you don't think the road ERA's and 3 of the 7 games coming from pitchers on short rest matters?

As you can probably tell from my posting style on here and my generally quiet nature while we played in Vegas, I'm not a big trash talker or chest thumper. That shouldn't be taken as a sign of fear or a lack of appreciation for my favorite team in all of sports (the Astros).

Quite the contrary -- my comment about missing half of the rotation was specifically an indication that I am concerned about having Munro and Backe in a position of starting three (and maybe four) games in a seven game series. I think that is the single most dominant reason why the series went from being one that would be about even (if Clemens and Oswalt were rested and in line to pitch four games in the series) to one in which I think, unfortunately, the Cardinals have a decided advantage.

to be honest with you, the Boston line isn't all that bad. I mean, they could still win, however it's not likely.
