I'm sitting at the Taj 5/10 with maybe $50 in chips and some $100 bills.

I flop quad queens, I bet, one guy raises, I call. On the turn I check, he bets, and by now I don't have enough chips, so I put forward a $100 bill without saying anything. As the dealer is getting change, I say, I raise. Dealer accepts it. Villain freaks out and tells me to take back the chips that I've raised with and that I can put them in on the river.

I'm too lazy to get into a fight, and I figure I'm probably wrong anyway. Who was right?

Where I play, if you put a bill into the pot without saying anything, it's a call.

Andy is correct of course.

Playing with bills or oversized chips (except for backing up a reasonable amount of the correct denomination playing chips) will often cause misunderstandings or result in rulings not in your favor. Just don't do it.
