It appears this is only being reported by www.drudgereport.com. (http://www.drudgereport.com.)
Still, I don't think Drudge is putting this story up without having one reliable source.

For about an hour, it was just Drudge. Foxnews.com has in now too. I'm sure it's all over the place.

wow. Didn't think I'd get my news from here. Thanks for the post.
When he injured himself, I worked at a head-injured residential treatment center which had many of his needs. Hopefully, stem-cell research will address his needs and provide society with the needed technology.
Vote your heart.

it's just really unfucking fair. he should have been the first to walk again or get to die trying.

Reeve's will never get the chance to be as luck as this rat.
30 seconds paralyzed, then 30 seconds cured. (http://www.pnas.org/content/vol0/issue2002/images/data/052678899/DC1/6788Movie1.mov)
It's such a shame.
Heres a paper on it.

Agreed. It sucks there isn't more research being done in this area.

if the discussion here gets too stem-celly there should probably be a fork in the politics forum

Reeve was a truely great model..someone who refused to give up, no matter how hard things seemed. I will never forget him.

I wish Reeve had recorded a Kerry ad. Getting Kerry elected and scientific research boosted could be his legacy. For the record, Reeve was a strong Democrat supporter.

it isn't that simple.

Thinking about Reeve and Ken Caminiti, kind of makes you count your blessings.

I think it's more unfair for the other unknowns suffering from the same condition than for Reeve himself.
This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but I think people are too quick to attribute heroic characteristics to celebrities like Reeve and Fox when the work they do seems motivated by self-interest.
I think Christopher Reeve championing breast cancer would've truly made the guy a world class human being.

Pardon my ignorance, but other than his role as Superman and a string of TV movies and B flicks, what films did Reeve do?
I can't think of anything.

me too, very much so. it is easy for a victim of something to champion it but he really did make a difference in the field / made a public impression / etc. a well-liked celebrity coming down with a given thing is probably the best thing that can happen toward making a cure. in this case he was championing treatment methods which should be much more far-reaching in terms of scope.

Deathtrap also starring Michael Caine was a great movie.

Yes, it really was. Truly excellent.
Street Smart, with Morgan Freeman playing a pimp vs. Reeves' uptight clean cut white boy, was very good; Siskel & Ebert loved it but IMDB has little to say about it that isn't negative.
Somewhere in Time is fondly remembered by a lot of people -- didn't see it myself, not that much into romantic films.
