View Full Version : No-Limit Hold'em played in London, (Great Britain)

03-01-2002, 12:31 PM
Just to let you all know that there was a no-limit Hold'em cash game spread at the Russell Square casino card room in London, England last night. It's a new departure and could become a regular Thursday night feature. In fact it could become more popular than that and it's possible that it could be on again tonight (Friday).

The minimum buy-in is £50 (~$75) and there is a MAXIMUM buy-in of £200 (~$300). The blinds are £1,£1,£2. The maximum might be increased to £250. The maximum is in place because the manager does not want the smaller players being crushed out of the game by a few millionaires sitting down with thousands.

To begin with it was a sedate, rather boring game, but rapidly became wilder after about two hours. By the end it was a great game with huge pots. I lost probably the biggest pot of the night: over £1,000 (~$1,500) to a one-outer. Ho-hum, life goes on, these things happen, stiff upper lip, etc.

Come on down and let's make this really work.

David,

That massive pot happened after I had left, apparently. When my kings ran into aces preflop (which of course had to be against the most aggressive player at the table), it was time to leave. What happened with your hand, and who was it against? Also, did you guys talk about when you next want to run the NL game?

Max,

the next game was on the next day!

Dominic, Neil (your aggressive opponent), various others and I all assembled on Friday night. I understand that Alan (who wears the skull cap)has written about Thursday's game on gutshot.co.uk. I refuse to look at that site, but you can if you wish.

My hand was against Alan. He raised pre-flop and I called with 10/10. There were two other callers. The flop came K/10/9. I checked, Alan checked, Phil (the drunk who could not read his Full house against you) went all in for £40 and another player called. I called and Alan raised £200. The other player (Asian - can't recall his name) folded and I raised a further £285.

Alan went into a deep think (meaningless - if he does not fold in the first five seconds, he will always call) and called after over a minute.

Turn card 2, river card 9. I show my full house and he reveals quads. I say 'well played', which is what I always say in these irritating situations and play resumes.

Things did not get better for me on Friday when I had pocket aces all-in pre-flop against Dominic for £250 when he had kings. No prizes for guessing how that one ended.

Yuck. Well, everyone going to play Monday, or after your horrific 2-out and 1-out beats are you going to take a break?

I'll be there tonight, but probably won't play the tournament.

You would not believe the pot-limit seven-card game that I just came back from in Luton. At one stage I had three jacks face up and went all in for £65 and was called by a player holding a pair of fives with a straight draw!

This was after he destroyed me with a three-outer for a £400 pot.

I don't want to come across as a bad beat bore. I won £150 tonight, but I felt like I should have won £1,000. The players put themselves on offer every hand there. It's incredible. There was one player who only folded on card three ONCE in five hours and he wound up winning!! He called and bet blind half the time and caught the most amazing cards.
