View Full Version : Keep pushing all-in when I have the nuts

02-27-2002, 05:31 PM
I'd just like everyone I play against to know- I don't mind that you put all your chips in the middle when I have the nuts on the flop or the turn. Even though you all seem to be getting whatever you need, whether you are a 3-1, 5-1, or 7-1 dog, whether it's in a live game or on the net: don't worry. The truth is, though I'm sure it makes some of you feel like the better player won, I actually don't mind these situations at all. Generally, I welcome them. The amazing thing about this is- you will continue to do this, but someday again soon, I will start to win when players raise me all their chips when I have the nuts- I know it sounds strange, but its actually how I win money.

Of course, I don't win all the time, and certainly not lately, but just remember- I encourage you all to continue playing this way, afterall, how else would I have made any money without you?

Thanks for doing exactly what I want you to when I want you to.

Keep trying to suck out,

Shaun

P.S.

There are of course a few bad beat stories that go along with this post, but I have chosen not to include them as a courtesy to others.

Don't worry, I've got plenty left as a result of that whole "theoretical profit" thing.

I suppose I'll be OK.

Anyway don't lose count and keep em warm for me!

Sincerely,

The magnet for bad poker situations recently...

Shaun,

This is quite an arrogant posting. The reason I describe it as arrogant is that those players you are addressing will not read it. The players here that do are mostly winning players and if they are not yet winners, certainly have the desire to be winners and already "know this and have experienced it!"

If you don't believe it's arrogant, just look at the replies you've got so far.

I certainly hope you don't carry this to the tables with you. If you do, try leaving it at home next time you play. You will reap the rewards. Rememer Shaun, lessons are extra!

But you did say you were only 23, didn't you?

I commented on your "long-winded reply" to the thread below.

I found it to be quite impressive, especially for a young man, such as yourself.

You can still be arrogant, I know I am. But I keep it under my skin (at least most of the time) and try not to let it surface.

We all get a little bit upset when sucked out on. Witness Greg's self-censoring, my not-so-quiet "damnits," sometimes accompanied by fist slams, when the guy next to me backed into a perfect perfect straight to take all my chips last night, etc.

Poker is ONE LONG SESSION. All the bad beats don't matter when you stack them up against all the play.

Take the last week's 4 sessions. If that's not enough, take the last three weeks, or the last month and a half. If you were to look at that 60-hr poker session and you played well, you will be up a fair amount of money. When you get busted for £200 but are feeling good, buy in for another £200. Sure, you may get a bad beat and lose it again, but if you're a better player (and think about that carefully), you will win that money back plus interest.

The bad players at the casino keep on coming back because they decide to spend x amount of their income on poker each week. The good players, the ones who I see sitting with me at the final tables or are still there late at night in the ring games, are the ones who don't spend a dime when they come to the casino, because they've been winning. Bad beats are a f***ing joke anyway -- because you're still playing with their money the last time you stuck it in them.

Agreed this is an arrogant post. I apologize. The thing is, people online at a certain site have heckled me after I lose in tournaments because they don't like the fact that I play aggressively and make them make tough decisions. I've just had a bad run lately and rather than say these things at the table I figured I'd just vent here.

I know none of the people here are responsible for my agony, in fact, if it weren't for this forum I don't know that I could get through these periods.

I've learned a lot here and it has helped me tremendously. I just needed to blow off some steam.

Again I apologize,

Shaun
