I have been playing online and derive some income from it. I went to a real casino in Atlantic City for the first time. Since I wasn't experienced at this, I played it safe by playing 2-4 limit holdem. The players seemed worse than in the .50-1 online. They were averaging about 7 players to the flop and 5 to the turn, even though I was playing very few hands. Most of the hands seemed to be won with 2 pair, kings and 6s and so on.

I was wondering if it is true in general that B&M games are easier than online games. If I played .50-1 online, I would play 4 tables at a time and it goes twice as fast, so I would be gambling as much as with 4/8 B&M.

In your scenario, your win rate per hour would be somewhat equal, but your variance would be higher at 4/8.

I found 2/4 NL at Mandalay Bay and 1/2 NL at the Borgata about equivalent in difficulty to .25/.50 NL on UB.

I currently play 2/4 online, and those games are tougher that any 4/8 or 5/10 I've ever played live.

People online generally have played way more hands than the people you will see at b&m. People online generally care more about the money they are playing with/for. Out of the people at your table at b&m, how many are there just to "have fun" ? Probably more than you will see online who are playing just to have fun.

Thats all the more reason to go play. You can enjoy yourself, all the while putting bait on the pole and catching fish. One of my favorite things about playing at the Mirage is all the "i've seen it on TV" folks and some of the conversations they have. They all try to make it sound like they are some big pro when its actually quite amusing. Their money is as good as anyone elses.

I agree B&M casino's have much worse quality players at higher limits than online, but you need to take a few things into consideration.

First what is the rake?, Is there a bad beat jackppot rake as well as the normal rake?, and How much youll lose tokeing dealers?

From my experience I'd say its much more profitable to play online. More hands per hour, Multi tables, no tokes, no bad beat jackpot rake "unless you choose to play at one of those tables", and no annoying players/ bad dealers.
Live is alot more fun and enjoyable, but if your not willing or don't have the bankroll to play the higher stakes (at least (5-10 or higher), it is near impossible to beat the $2-4 limit over the long term. Or maybe you should try some NL live. It's exciteing and alot of fun,but I'd prefer profit.

A lot of people I meet at the Vegas card rooms are mostly online players, and they consistently tell me how soft the action is online compared to B&M.

I would have to say that overall the B&M game is harder to beat.

Why? [quick incomplete list below]

#1 Much much harder to change tables

#2 Not able to play more than 1 table at a time

#3 Bigger rake

#4 You can watch ALL the action online before taking a seat at a table easily.

#5 Easy note taking online

#6 I can't play naked

#7 Money is a bit more tangible live, then online which can effect play.

On the other hand:

More tells live, but I don't think it compensates for the above.

Live is a lot more FUN, that is for sure though.

Players are usually better at the same limits online. To some, this makes the online games easier. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
