I am in no doubt that I COULD play more hands and SHOULD play more hands. However I have no idea which ones to play.

I have been too tight in the BB. In the past week I have improved that by 5%. However since I get to see for free 50% of the time and I am in BB 0nly 1/5 of time on average, this only adds 0.5% to my VP$IP.

Despite that increase, my overall VP$IP is DOWN by 0.5% in that time in a run of 4000 hands when (due to a bit of luck for a change /images/graemlins/smile.gif) my BB/100 is 3.23

As a start to help me pinpoint my problems could folks please share their VP$IP by POSITION? It would be a great help. Hope you will help. Thanks.

Mine are:-

Button------19.37
1------------18.31
2------------15.20
3------------12.84
BB-----------14.99
SB-----------25.76

Overall------18.26 (My ATSB figure is 27.49)

Thanks all. I appreciate it.

Mine are:

Button:- 18.83
1-------- 16.20
2-------- 11.87
3-------- 11.55
BB------- 17.25
SB------- 30.22

Overall-- 18.50

This is after 86K

Since 1 October I don't play on auto-pilot anymore and I've changed my style. Results since then are:

Button:- 19.92
1-------- 18.18
2-------- 12.19
3-------- 10.53
BB------- 18.42
SB------- 31.77

Overall-- 19.48

Only 7K hands though.

I don't think there is much wrong with your number other than that you need to call a little more in the BB like you said.

Good luck,

Guido

If you are daring, and confident in your post flop play, here is a little "Game" you can play over your next 1K hands or so.

1. When in the Small Blinds - you should complete any time the pot is not raised with any 2.

2. In the BB, if the raise comes from anyone other than UTG - call if it's heads up with any 2. If it comes from the Button, call unless the SB 3-bets.

I would still raise normal raising hands, but you will be completing and defending with a lot more than you are used to. In fact - you will really be going to other way, and over defending. I know this sounds like -EV, but please hear me out.

From the SB, there are many hands that can be completed, escpically when 2 or more ahead of you have limped. There are now 4 of you in the pot, so you just put in a bet of 1/8 the pot. Even hands that aren't 8-1 will pay you off much bigger in the long run that it makes up for it.

From the BB, you start to realize what other hands are good for blind defense. I know many people throw something like T8 away to 1 raise in the BB. But if you are confident and agressive with your post flop play, if the flop comes out Q82 against 1 opponent who PFR, you will be ahead more times than you think.

If you can stomach this over 1K hands, you should have a good feel for some extra hands to add to your BB and SB Defense. Then scale back to your normal hands plus your new ones, and see what happens.

Thanks for replying guys. Small sample of course but the early indications are that the biggest culprit for me is the Small Blind, followed by BB and Button in that order. The other 3 seats are about the "norm" although I am fractionally tighter than the average.

Any other figures please? A bigger sample would be very useful. At the end I will post averages.

Thanks all

Have the same stats, but a little more lose UTG (3% - same as UTG+1 /images/graemlins/blush.gif)... also much less in BB, but my stats are mostly 5/10 and some 10/20, guess that u defend a little more if table is a little tighter, headsup a lot of hands are pretty ok. OR maybe I should defend more OR maybe I should raise more, trying to take control of pot. I win about the same from all positions (0.11BB/h), except UTG+1, where I win a little less.
