KEM - Bridge - Regular Index - Traditional Pattern

I just got a set of KEMs and they are nice. I like the bridge size but I might also buy a poker size deck later. You can see my thread yesterday on here about the bridge size.

1) Kem - never tried copaq cards.
2) Poker Size -looks better w/Super Index. Would go with Bridge size w/Regular Index, though.
3) Super Index - easier on the eyes, especially at 3 am.
4) Traditional Pattern - I really haven't seen any "modern" designs that I like so far. My friend did have pretty nice Hooter's playing cards, we tried playing with them but they were too distracting! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

WOuld you buy copags over Kems if the price was the same, or is the savings driving the sale...

Miksen,
I am pretty fanatical about my playing cards. I have tried to keep the playtime between my copag and kem's about the same. The KEM's defintely started sticking a little, the copags are still pretty much perfect. I just finished a real long night (8 hours) of poker just now and the KEM's have started sticking even more. Enough that I'm thinking of washing them, hopefully that will reduce the stickiness. The copags are exactly the same but saw a little less usage than the KEM's during tonite's session.

These are my first KEM and copag cards so I dont have a lot of experience with either. Overall, even if they were the same price, I much prefer the copag. Not to mention the KEM's came warped.

I have also done torture tests on the jokers of a royal, kem, and copag card. The first thing I did was fully bend them. I bent the KEM once and it cracked. I bent the royal and copags 4 times each and neither tore or broke. They of course had permanent bends--copags faired better than royals.
Next I threw the cards against a wall. Paper cards are ruined after 3 throws, first throw itself will always damage a paper card. Just to give you an idea. The first throws failed to damage any of the 3 cards. The second throw chipped the corner of the KEM, other 2 were fine. Third, the Royals chipped, the others were same. Fourth, the KEM chipped AGAIN, on another corner. The royals showed minor side dent, the copag absolutely no change. Fifth throw cracked the KEM in half so I stopped throwing it. The royals I think cracked again at throw 8. At this point the copags still had not shown that it had even been thrown. Needless to say I was impressed, so I started throwing only the copag even harder (I did not use my full strength because I did not expect the cards to fare as well as they did). At throw 20 the copag finally cracked at the corner (Cracked not chipped). And at throw 30 something it cracked in the exact same manner in another corner. I stopped there. Keep in mind these tests don't really show the durability of the cards unless you are extremely violent with cards. I never expect a KEM to crack or bend in a real game.

I think for the price ($10-$12) for a double deck Copag is a
better value. Their selection of backs and indexs is very
limited. Personally I perfer the Kem cards and am willing to
pay the extra for the designs and indexs I want.

In my home game, we've been playing with one KEM setup (paisley) for several months. About a month ago I got three Copag setups and everyone prefers the Copags (especially the Mandala design). They are less sticky than the KEMs.

I've used all three face sizes of the KEMs. I prefer the regular index, although the Magnums are nice if you have a big table and old eyes. I don't like the Super because of how far you have to lift your hole cards, but I don't really mind so much on the Copags (like the Super but maybe 20% smaller).

KEM (although never tried Copag)
Poker Size
Super Index
Traditional Pattern

Recently I had to resort to using a couple decks of Royal plastic cards. Not as good a texture as Kems but much cheaper and still way better than paper cards IMO.

Still trying out Copags

/images/graemlins/club.gifPoker Size or Regular Bridge size

Bridge- easier to shuffle/handle

/images/graemlins/heart.gifReg Index or Super Index

Super or greater especially with big tables

/images/graemlins/spade.gifTraditional Pattern or New Artsie styles - GOlf CLouds etc

As long as everyone can easily tell the two decks apart, I'm not that picky. They can't look unflattering tho.
