I've always thought the idea was that you had Carpal Tunnel syndrome from all your posting and thus could no longer type properly.

It's a coding thing. You add slashes in front of an apostrophe to let the server know to parse ' as a regular apostrophe and not to interpret it as code. For an example using PHP:

echo 'He said, 'Wow!'';
will produce an error, as the server can not interpret Wow! as a command.

echo 'He said, \'Wow!\'';
is the correct way to do it.

Cliff notes: It's a programming error where he forgot to remove slashes at one point in the code . . . or it is intention for some reason or another.
