View Full Version : HULA Week 3 Thread - Fixtures, Results, etc

Sheriff Fatman
10-06-2004, 10:24 AM
By my calculations I believe that Week 3 is now in session!

Fixtures are as follows - home team listed 2nd (US style!)
Nottom......sthief09
GoT.........Sheriff
Schneids....gonores
fsuplayer...fudgenut
Joe Tall....Tosh

Remember, the home captain gets to select the match line ups for their fixture. There were a number of posts in the Week 2 thread from players who didn't know who they were playing. I would therefore suggest that the home captains announce their chosen line ups in this thread for all to see.

With that in mind, my chosen lines ups for the match vs GoT are:

Sheriff vs GoT
larsŪ vs The Dude
nolanfan34 vs Dov
Bigbaitsim (milo) vs The Grifter
TimM vs Brian

Can anyone on my team who needs a sub this week please PM me. Otherwise, please contact your opponent ASAP to arrange your match.

Sheriff

Me and Tosh are gonna try and play asap.

I will be leaving this friday for a 10 day hunting trip and will return on sunday the 17th. So if tosh and i can play before i leave and if i can schedule my round 4 match after 17th i wont need a sub.

TheGrifter and I for a number of reasons never hooked up for our Week 2 match. In the end, the results won't matter.

Is there a protocal for this, or do we just let it go?

P.S. your location made me laugh the first time I read it. Good luck in your challenge with Doug.

If anyone needs a decision regarding an unplayed match from Week 2, please have your captain PM me the pertinent details ASAP.

The teams which I oversee are:
DIVISION OF GOOD (Commissioned by Rugbyrat)
Fudgenut
Schneids
Fsuplayer
Sheriff Fatman
Sthief09

It appears that only Lars' match may need a decision, according to Joe826's website.

Thanks.

I'm doing my best to update this thing once a day atleast. I'm working on week 3 stuff right now. I swear there was a list around that had all the team match-ups for all the weeks. Does anyone know where this is? That'd be alot easier, so I can atleast add the team matchups then add the individual matches as they come.

Good match Sarge.

I lept out to an early lead. You battled back but were never able to get anything going. The key hand was where I flopped the nut flush and the board paired 7s on the turn. I think you 6-bet me on the turn and I was afraid you had the boat. That hand crippled you.

I got hit with the deck. I actually was dealt pocket aces 4 times, but you folded before the flop every time.

That I beat you to posting this was symbolic of how our match would go. The Dude beats LarsŪ in 33 minutes, riding the strength of 22 and K2.

Sheriff overcomes GoT in 175 hands.

Blew away a lot of chips early on and was down to about T200 but managed to claw back, and then creep ahead.

Took 2 or 3 attempts to get his last few hundred chips but got there in the end.

Good game GoT. Match back to 1-2 I think. Come on bigbaitsim and nolanfan34!!!

Rugbyrat defeats Thomastem in a marathon 330 hand, 2 level match.

Two key hands:
1. I raised preflop with Grannie Mae. Flop came with 2 queens. Rivered a 5 for the full house. I believe Thomastem turned the nut straight, but I'm not sure.

2. Last hand of the game. I limped from SB with KK. Thomastem raised. I reraised. Flop came QQK. After a war of the raises, I showed the full house to his trip Q's.

Great match!

Based on the messages I received from Lars and stripsqueez, it appears that Lars and stripsqueez were unable to schedule their match.

Following last season's HULA rules, I have awarded the match to the home team player, stripsqueez.

If either player or their respective captains objects to this decision (on reasonable grounds), please let me know via PM and I will discuss it with the other commissioners.

So much for that. Sorry team. Dov dispatches me in an embarrassing low number of hands (although more hands than Lars vs. The Dude /images/graemlins/grin.gif).

Dov knocked me down early by hitting a lot of boards, turns and rivers. Well, he might play gOOt too, but when I have K3 and the board comes AK3r, and another A comes on the turn, and he has AJ, well, I was a' steppin' in landmines.

Actually his hand where he rivered a straight and showed down 73o was even better. I have a lot to learn about heads up play, I need to loosen my hand standards! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

btw - my HULA site (http://www.deterrent.org/hula.html) is finally updated and accurate. sorry I suck at updating it, i'll just blame it on lots of school work. so far the only match we have decided is GoT's team over Sheriff's team. There are also 2 matches from week 2 that were not played and I'm not sure what the rulings were. This was Sarge85's match and also inthacup's match (both JoeTall's team). none of them really matter, but if you guys want me to put up the final decision just lemme know.

Really? Me and sfer have ours arranged for Wednesday.
My two previous games have been played on a Saturday.
This time I didn't even find out who I was playing until *Sunday*, and that I believe was when the opposing teams captain had decided who was playing who.
It doesn't sound like a fair default and home victory for a captain who waits 5 days to decide whose playing who, and that seems to be the way it went down.
I'm not really playing poker atm, so I don't spend on the time on 2+2 currently to go chasing things up all week.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure Rugbyrat's interpretation of the default rule is correct (he's currently looking into it so watch this space).

In any event, I would only apply the default rule (whatever that may be) after reviewing the specifics and there being no information as to who was 'to blame' for the fixture not being played. If fault is clearly on one side then the match will be awarded to the other team.

Therefore, this is not an option available to guarantee victory for the home team (at least for the matches under my jurisdiction!)

After receiving a protest from an interested party, I have re-evaluated my decision regarding the unplayed stripsqueez v. Lars. While my final decision remains the same (stripsqueez defeats Lars), my reasoning has changed.

I reviewed the HULA2 rules, and one rule is pertinent to this matter:

"-Unplayed Matches: The burden of scheduling lies upon the player picked later in the draft. If it appears equal effort has been made to schedule the match, and neither player chose to call for a sub, the match will be awarded to the earlier-picked player."

Both stripsqueez and Lars were drafted in the first round, but stripsqueez was drafted first. As a result, stripsqueez wins the non-played match.

Please remember, if you cannot play your match, contact your team captain to have your team substitute play in your place. This will help to avoid similar decisions in the future.

Thanks,
Rugbyrat
