I actually watched one of these speed tourneys with 1500 entries paying $30 each. It seems to me to be exactly what you called it - a lottery! At one point the BB was larger than the average stack and the chip leader had only 2xBB. Why would anyone play in one of these? Doesn't seem like strategy exists for such a crapshoot!

if you have a stack like i did, for a while iwas the only person over the bb, and i was attacking semi large stacks that were all in on their blinds. but thats about as much strategy is you will find.

Not quite what you're talking about, but a good way to do something like this with a big stack: Wait for an SB with a big stack who 'only' has half his stack in the pot and a very SS'd BB, then go all in with any two if it's folded to you.

Chances are the SB won't call it, and you're guaranteed a side pot that's 3x the main pot.

i got 17th today, i got put in the blinds 4 strait times, horrid. i luckily made my way through that, and got to table 1 where i was 8th out of 20, but 7th at my table. also when the blinds hit 100/200 through 150/300, there is some stealing opportunity.
